What's new/changing in the 2028-2032 Divvy contract? - City will collect at least $40M in system revenue (charges at 10% through $40M, 7% for 40-60M, and 5% above $60M) - 4,000 new pillar docs (the newer ones) in the core area for infill (see image) - city gets approval of advertisements

If you envision three principles of municipal housing policy, as @danielkayhertz.bsky.social described in the piece I did recently, those things are tenant protections, loosening zoning, & using public funds & legal tools to preserve & create affordable units. 1/ chicagoreader.com/books/book-r...

Back to school has been good for ridership! Booming since kids went back. Weekend is at 100% and bus is 95% of prepandemic levels. Frequent bus network is kicking ass in improving ridership
Powerpoint slide says ridership has been building through the summer. The three highest ridership days since covid have been just this August of 2026, on the 26th, 27th & 28th.Powerpoint slide says weekday ridership regularly exceeds 1.2 million rides. Green chart on the left shows ridership is still highest monday through friday, but in terms of recovering from covid weekends are in 90s to 100%Powerpoint slide says frequent bus network ridership is following service investments. Over the past two years, the frequent bus network routes have seen a 21% increase in ridership, while non frequent buses have only increased 11%Powerpoint slide says red-purple modernization project supporting ridership growth. The stations in the RPM project area added 1.1 million additional net rides during the 12 months following the station reopenings. These stations combined were worth about 1 out 5 all added rail rides in July 2026. Stations showed 26% growth YOY compared to 6% rail system overall.

Director Alvarez asks what you'd do if you could do something bold to improve transit? CTA answers dedicated bus lanes, we're way behind our peer municipalities. A bold goal of 100-150 miles of dedicated lanes would be transformative. Ridership #s showing people want to ride the bus! 🚌👏

Is anyone doing this for municipal/state/governmental data anywhere??

A real idea that someone should fund, or just volunteer and do: Governmental pdf freeing via LLM tools. From personal experience, there is oodles of data that public sector agencies have but can't act on because it's locked in a million pdfs (or poorly formatted excels).

Did you know Chicago Municipal Code requires daylighting at intersections? Keeping vehicles back from crosswalks helps everyone see and be seen. The principle is already in City code. But it's also important to look at how street design can make that protection physical, visible & self-enforcing.
Street view of a Chicago intersection at Adams Street, showing marked crosswalks and a corner building. Yellow arrows illustrate existing daylighting requirements, with 20 feet of clear space on one approach and 30 feet on the other to keep parked vehicles away from the intersection and improve visibility.

A church built of gray brick. On the right is the rectangular church building with a dark wood canopy at the entrance. On the left is a square, tall church tower. The whole complex is separated from the street by a human-high gray brick wall. Photo by Raimond Spekking via Wikimedia Commons. The interior of the church, with blank walls of white/gray brick.
