I enjoy the Atmosphere and peruse my lists often, mainly to learn about the good work that so many are doing. Struggling to make child care or elder care affordable, to oppose book bans or federal fascist consolidation—to me, each struggle seen is a daily miracle that nourishes the spirit.

It's true that money buys power. But from an organizing perspective, it's much more useful to think of the opposite: Wealth isn't a precondition to power; it's a consequence of the power relations that determine who gets money. Reorganizing the rules of those relations is the many's main power.

It takes a lot for workers to come forward to report wage theft. Because of the incredible organizing of Los Deliveristas Unidos and @workersjusticep.bsky.social, NYC workers have won important protections. But these are only meaningful if enforced.

Yes, the NYS BOE requires 2 commissioners each to be from each of "the major political parties." If and when NY WFP overtakes the Republican Party, it would be entitled to 2 commissioners. (On a different but related note: Z appointed a WFP person to the NYC Campaign Finance Board.)

Does it make sense for the public to ask Wall Street for funds in order to provide public services + infrastructure, when the public can create a way to fund itself instead? Of course not—but that's actually what all states + cities with bonds are currently doing. The Loop is how we make a change.

Thank you. We now have enough aligned state legislators in the Assembly that it's at least possible to pass many things that were previously impossible. Whether they can all (or mostly) cohere as a bloc will be the next test that NY's governing-power Left will soon have the chance to practice. 🙏

I think it’s a big problem that most of the public is totally unfamiliar w/one of the worst yet common outcomes from Covid, namely ME/CFS. I often share this Sundance doc bc I think being able to visualize the harm (as we can for, say, polio) makes it easier to understand the desire to mitigate it.
