ICE at airports: Risks of domestic travel
August 2026 update

Community members have been arrested by ICE at airports when they were trying to fly domestically, creating fear.

TSA has been sharing people’s information with ICE to target them for detention and deportation.

We do not fully know who is being targeted.
All people who are undocumented or have temporary or expired immigration status face some risk. However, we believe there is currently higher risk for:
People with deportation orders even if they have some form of protection (*note: this includes people with Withholding of Removal and protection under the Convention Against Torture).

People with prior arrests or cases in the criminal legal system who are more likely to have an ICE administrative warrant.

People who have overstayed visas, or whose temporary immigration status has been revoked (for example, TPS).

Note: People targeted by ICE at airports flying domestically have included those with pending cases in immigration court or who have filed certain applications with USCIS, including asylum applications.

What should I do if I plan to fly domestically?

Learn if you have a deportation order (an “order of removal”). If you have an A number, call 800-898-7180 or visit the EOIR website. If you are unsure, consult with an attorney.

Give a trusted loved one your A number (if you have one) and access to documents related to any immigration or criminal legal case.

Share your travel information with your loved ones and keep them updated as you travel so they can find help if needed.
