Again, much of Pete Hegseth’s deal is the only skill his job demanded for a long time was keeping a trim figure to be conventionally pretty for stay-at-home moms watching daytime tv. His job was “be pretty,” but he knows that’s a girl job, so he’s deeply insecure and is trying to make it a boy job.

Pretty clear to me there’s a very good case against this man for mass murder, and I’m saying that in as measured a fashion as I can. He’s order the killing of 234 people under no plausible war or legal justification. I am skeptical he will ever face legal accountability for til his but he should.

A feature of post-war German democracy has been that the left has traditionally had far more of a firewall to the far left than the center right has had with the far right. The central role of anti-communism in Cold War West Germany created a structural asymmetry that has not been reckoned with.

FATALITY
A tweet from Joyce Carol Oates: overall takeaway from the Curtis Yarvin profile is that there must be millions of smart-aleck show-offy kids who annoy their teachers and go on to annoy other adults through their lives with their “contrarian” pose that hardens to a carapace over their faces; until, as adults, they still harbor a delusion that, if there is a king, or a fuhrer, he’d be impressed with the guys motor mouth and appoint him to his cabinet rather than deleting him with a negligent swipe of his wrist as Stalin did routinely.

I don't find the Schmitt Senate fiasco remotely funny. It's just McCarthyism but more incompetent. It's appalling, & a constitutional order that can't end this level of unserious lying & extremist nonsense isn't worth saving. We need massive institutional reform to make sure it never happens again.

Not a great sign when your 12-person private fundraiser includes someone who hates you enough to leak damaging audio
The audio of Mr. Paxton was shared with The Times by an attendee who recorded him speaking at a private fund-raiser in Washington attended by roughly a dozen people. The person, who opposes Mr. Paxton’s campaign and provided the recording to The Times, was granted anonymity because Mr. Paxton’s remarks were private.

My new piece at @nyulaw.bsky.social @democracyproject.bsky.social, "Exorcising Justice Alito's Voter Fraud Boogeyman," begins:
Emotions can cause even the smartest among us to lose perspective, and I am afraid that the usually sharp Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito has let his apparent panic over phantom voter fraud cloud his judgment in some of the Court’s most recent election cases. As the Court has navigated such cases, including a recent last-minute emergency election case, the good news is that cooler heads have prevailed in rejecting Justice Alito’s analyses as contrary to both the evidence and appellate review standards. Should the Supreme Court face post-election litigation in which claims of voter fraud again play a role, Justices should again respond to Justice Alito’s boogeyman the way parents respond to a child irrationally afraid of the monster under the bed: with calmness, compassion, demonstrable evidence, and a firm grasp on reality.

grandpa is talking crazy about the TV again
Why does FoxNews always put Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Jessica Tarlov, and every Democrat on, saying bad things about the Republican Party and, of course, me? I actually think they get more airtime than Pro Republicans. This is why MAGA, and REAL Patriots, will never like Fox! They repeat a completely negative narrative, on and on it goes, and then we get a quick retort. It’s truly amazing that I won all three Elections. The opposition is enormous, but the fight goes on! One important policy lesson from this story is how Facebook committed blatant tax fraud in 2013 (Zuckerberg's stock options as R&D) and still hasn't been forced to pay it and thus learned that tax fraud is an acceptable business practice and so is doing it again.
