Taxing the rich is the nonviolent option.
A close-up shot of a brown metal outdoor utility box on a city sidewalk. Fixed to the top left of the box is a small, rectangular yellow sticker with a thin black border that reads "TAXING THE RICH IS THE NONVIOLENT OPTION" in all-capital black letters. Below it, there is a torn white paper residue from a previous sticker and a long, vertical black sticker depicting multiple stylized hands gripping the neck of a guitar. In the blurry background, a sidewalk, an urban building facade, and a person walking are faintly visible.

I'd like one more level of analysis here. My take: people are spending because prices are climbing AND WE KNOW THEY WON'T EVER COME BACK DOWN SO SPEND NOW. www.wsj.com/economy/cons...
Spending is rising because prices are climbing and Americans are buying more stuff. Just over half the spending increase in the year through August owes to the persistent inflation that has frustrated many shoppers: Consumer prices were up by about 3.4% over that period. But inflation-adjusted spending climbed by 2.6%, too, extending a streak of steady growth over the past five years.

Just a reminder: Tillis persuaded the woman Hegseth allegedly raped to come forward with her story, and told her that if she did, it would sink the nomination. She did. At great risk to herself. Tillis then cast the deciding vote for Hegseth. Because he’s a goddamned coward.

I can’t emphasize this enough — “AI” wasn’t born corrupt and toxic. For ~75 years, it was mathematicians and scientists doing interesting, thoughtful work and trying to solve problems, making only the usual human mistakes. What “AI” did to machine learning is as tragic as what it did to artists.

Solid dose of hopium from @doctorow.pluralistic.net
As seas rise, we're going to have jobs for every person who is willing, building sea defenses and moving whole coastal cities inland. Two generations of neoliberalism has left us with massive shortages of housing stock, crumbling highways, inadequate schools and hospitals. That means that we need to build *lots* more of these, and they can be built with state-of-the-art climate hardening, including geothermal heat, "passive home" designs, modern insulation, and heat-pumps. The rights-of-way for the interstate system would make dandy railbeds for arrow-straight, all electric high-speed rail powered by solar, wind and tides.
All of this has the potential to yield a second peace-dividend prosperity. A post-oligarch world can recover industrial capacity by diverting it away from destructive activity (data centers, luxury housing) to essential functions (climate defenses, decent housing for everyday people). A post-oligarch world can recover democratic excellence by removing the malign influence that morbid wealth exerts on our policy choices: for example, if we don't like the quality of public schools, we can fix them by giving schools more resources, not by letting billionaire dilettantes privatize and starve them in the name of "school choice":

Browsing kink art? I'll tell you something interesting.

There's two types of kinks: squeezing, and lack of responsibility.
Vore? Squeezing. Hypno? Responsibility.

"Yeah..."

Inflation? Squeezing. Petrified? Responsibility.
Bondage is both.
AB/DL is one part responsibility and one part squeezing.
Counterintuitively, maids are lack of responsibility.
