This also flagrantly violates the 1967 Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees, which the US is a party to. Asylum seekers are allowed to cross borders irregularly. Countries must still provide asylum hearings. Refoulment- deporting asylum seekers to unsafe countries- is forbidden.

Sam Bankman-Fried, the once-celebrated crypto entrepreneur whose empire now faces bankruptcy, said Wednesday at his first public appearance since he stepped down as CEO of FTX that he did not “try to commit fraud on anyone.”

Bankman-Fried, appearing at the New York Times DealBook Summit, insisted in an interview with CNBC anchor Andrew Ross Sorkin over a video call that he was "shocked" by his firm's collapse.

"I was excited about FTX a month ago. ... I was shocked by what happened,” Bankman-Fried said, adding, "I substantially underestimated what the scale of the market crash could look like and the speed of it."

Speaking at the 2023 DealBook Summit in New York on Wednesday, Elon Musk, the owner of social media site X (formerly Twitter), scoffed at advertisers boycotting the platform because of antisemitic posts he amplified there.

We all knew Musk’s AI would be a racist mess, but I guess it didn’t hit me until now that “using Twitter data” would mean the AI is pulling info about race and IQ from random blue checkmarks to establish racial hierarchies. Bleak shit, to say the least.
