The trans women in sports panic has got to be one of the GOP's most successful manufactured culture war campaigns. Somehow they got a lot of people who would otherwise say they support trans rights to somehow fear "fairness" in sports. It's a non-issue.

I mean, the science of it is worth getting into. These bans have no scientific backing. Research has mostly failed to show that trans athletes have any real aggregate advantages after a couple years on HRT. If there *were* a large number of trans athletes it wouldn't make the bans correct, either.

Left: washing machine with the words “Critical Washing” on it

Right: A quote: “"When we critique AI, we should do so with intellectual honesty and in a principled way. Utmost care is needed to avoid ethics washing, greenwashing, and generally — what we dub — critical washing. Critical reflection cannot be reduced to a mere ‘check box’ before unleashing AI technologies in our daily life after all (as has been done in other areas such as vaping and combustion engines). Researching and reflecting on the harms of AI is not itself harm reduction. It may even contribute to rationalizing, normalizing, and enabling harm. Critical reflection without appropriate action is thus quintessentially critical washing.”
