"Libraries should be open late as an alternative to the bar" is going around some groups I'm in again and I just Y'all can't convince enough people to fund libraries to be open during the day with reasonable pay and expectations Where do you think you're finding night shift premium pay money

It never ceases to amaze me that US television was this vastly profitable enterprise for decades, and tech bros high on VC bucks managed to wreck it in less than one, and almost no one talks about that

Any programs that have external accreditation, look to see if they specify access to certain resources (some do!). They tend to be non-negotiable requirements to maintain accreditation.

I am not trying to dunk, I am not trying to subtweet, I am simply begging people to look at their local library website & learn that they almost certainly do summer reading challenges, WITH PRIZES, for teenagers and adults.

I seriously look at people sometime and sense their constant, unexamined panic. The world demands ever more literacy, at faster processing speed. If you can’t do that, the world right now must feel like the sixth circle of hell.

Routes 39 and 84 are currently on detour until further notice while the MacKay Bridge is closed to heavy and high-sided vehicles due to high winds. Buses will detour as follows: (1/3)
A yellow arrow snakes its way between two white dots, making a shape similar to a backwards "s", on a solid blue background. Below the arrow shape is the word "detour" in white. Below that is the Halifax Transit logo.

So part of using tech properly is using tools that are actually fit for purpose. You don't need Copilot for a bibliography, you need a reference manager. They'll generate a formatted reference list for you without fake references. You're welcome.

glad to no longer be a librarian in any part of GNB so I can avoid the embarrassment and screaming. oh wait, there are many qualified people who can find actual research in the government who could have done that. also, reference managers exist already. You don't need AI to format a bibliography.

it is interesting to posit AI as a contagion of language, spend extraordinary amounts of time with it, think the work you're reading now looks like it and presume you are entirely immune to that exposure

I had a glorious dinner at the Narrows with my cousins and sibling and their partners and my partner, and it’s nice to just be with family and laugh and eat too much food and sink into the layers of having done life together.
