When the series started in 1973, the average age of the trio of retired elderly men in The Last of The Summer Wine was 53 years old.

I didn't think age was affecting me too much, but I just had to stop myself from shouting "PLEASE!!!" at the person in front of me in a coffee shop who didn't say it when placing their order. I'm wildly purple with fury at the sudden mysterious death of please. I hear its absence everywhere.

I don't think people internationally measure quite how violent the French police is in its interventions against kids. It gives you a good sense of what to expect if the fash win the elections next year.

our muscles atrophy.
I predict we'll need gyms for our brains too, once Al

Well my little darling Saltburn you didn’t make the Polari Prize longlist (congrats to all that did), or sell a great deal of copies, or get many reviews, but I love and am proud of your queer madness, your mermaids, your nuclear power station meltdowns. renardpress.com/books/saltbu...

This is a good illustration of how so much of AI theft isn't indirect (ie, data sucked into a model to train the chatbot) - it's actually **direct** copying, but *enabled* by GenAI. Of course it is: chatbots absolutely suck at creating good, new stuff.

Why do we have to accept this though? The negative impact, on multiple levels, far outweighs the benefits of a technology that the world can happily function without. Its value to society only exists in the minds of CEOs, zealots and investors who don't want to lose their shirts.
