God, the tone and content of Evan Davis's reporting on PM–almost aggrieved that it's not a major terrorist incident. And "scratching his head" because... the police at still investigating. What??!

Like, let's be honest here, this is what you've actually voted for. Better pallative care would have done very little for my grandmother as she slowly became locked in her own body, having degrading treatment to keep her alive. Being able to choose her own death would have done.

London's Cycleways network now stretches a whopping 450km. That’s even further than the distance from London to Paris. And with 1.5 million daily cycle journeys, it's helping transform how Londoners travel, improving health and cleaning our air.
Graphic with a dark purple background. A white Mayor of London logo appears at the top, above the large headline “More ways to ride.” Below is a photograph of three cyclists riding along a London cycleway, with the lead cyclist in the foreground and bollards separating the cycle lane from the pavement. White text at the bottom reads: “London now has 450km of cycleways, which means we’ve grown the cycling network by five times since 2016, making journeys safer and easier for everyone.”

Very good from @dianecoyle1859.bsky.social. Entirely correct that a fundamental reset of the institutional framework is needed. We’ve tested the current one to its limit. It doesn’t work.
The system needs a reset, or the mythical fiscal "headroom" will only ever shrink. Public spending needs to become more effective by devolving decision-making powers and accountability for outcomes. Decentralised decisions benefit from detailed information and easier co-ordination than is possible in Whitehall. Local people know who is responsible if services are not up to scratch.
The Treasury and the OBR need to agree a strategic fiscal framework instead of short-termist game-playing. It should include public investment, which takes many years to affect growth and so is never "scored" highly in the OBR'S forecasts; if it does not go ahead, we will never get the growth.
One lesson from Manchester is that it takes time for education, employment and health policies to show up in GDP statistics. But meanwhile, people have better skills, jobs and health; almost 20 years on from the first devolution deal, the city region has the growth. My reading of Burnham's announcements so far is that he has taken this to heart.
