Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan @london.gov.uk · 10/09/2026I strongly welcome giving London the power to introduce an Overnight Visitor Levy. A modest, well-designed levy has the potential to provide an important additional source of funding to support growth, strengthen London’s offer to visitors and help us remain globally competitive. 1817715
LollyB @rooksnest.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Depends on how high the tax is whether we could afford to visit.... 000
Dawny B @dawnbritten.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Yes it’s standard in Europe. A pain in the ass sorry. 130
Howard Jones @hojo64.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Good move, and already common practice across other major tourist destinations in my experience. 040
ruthmayorcas.bsky.social @ruthmayorcas.bsky.social · 10/09/2026100% agree. Every other country in Europe does it. 040
OCB1640 @ocb1640.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Mate, London is expensive enough, adding a levy on top literally stinks. How about a tourist bonus cheque instead? Every tourist gets a £20-£50 cheque to spend at cultural centres if they stay 2 nights or more. Incentives tourism, doesn’t punish it! 200
Michael Smith @smithmichaelw.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Paid it in loads of places, no issue with it, living somewhere that can nearly double in size in tourist season we need some extra help here 2101

John Leyden🏴🇫🇷 @flyingscot1964.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Going to Alsace for a week later this month, outskirts of Strasbourg. Our tourist tax is 15€ or so for the week. In the scheme of things it's not a lot. By contrast, we book a larger room at more cost, then pay 16€ a night to take the dog. 000

Fish Shambles @fishshambles.bsky.social · 10/09/2026In Spain, the tourist tax per person, per night is generally between 0.90€ to around 2,50€, depending on the type of accomodation. It's higher in some cities but it shouldn't be an issue to someone spending 100s on a weekend away. 010
Mr Blogberry @mr-blogberry.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Get the Airbnb's to start paying business rates instead of council tax like they are supposed to. Then your councils will either be getting a lot of revenue or more properties will come onto the rental/sales market. No need for this extra tax on visitors. 020
