I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

Batman fans say that he’s not just a guy who beats up criminals, and in fact spends a lot of money on charity, infrastructure, community, etc. Well, think what he could achieve if he spent ALL his money on beating up criminals.

"You will never defeat us" is a very funny thing to say after you've just bailed everyone who was involved in whatever the fuck this was
All five men arrested in RAF base plot are British nationals
The five men who were arrested and subsequently released on bail are all British citizens, home secretary Shabana Mahmood has just told the Labour party conference.

She adds that the scene is “now safe” and the residents living near to the RAF base are now able to return home.

“Let this be a reminder: you will never defeat us,” he says.

The panel pointing out how the “peacekeeping force” that replaced the Kreelers was just the same men in different uniforms is rightly celebrated, but it’s striking how drab the Kreeler uniforms are compared to what they’re replaced by; lesser creators would have gone the opposite route.

A couple quick observations here, which should be obvious. 1) insurance “risk pools” work by requiring younger/healthier people who make few or no claims to sign up and pay premiums alongside older/less healthy people who do, essentially covering their costs.

Good restaurants that do post-theatre dining with both a bargain set menu (9:45 onward) *and* full a la carte options are a wonderful thing. (Especially when pre-theatre meals don't happen due to €%#* train delays) We got dinner at 10:30 tonight.

George Fouracres as the new Doctor Who. Actually, *any* of the SNL UK crew would be interesting as the new Doctor Who. Suddenly very curious about what Paddy Young, Ania Magliano or Al Nash would do with the role.

Thinking of/with antiwar activist A. J. Muste:

Once a reporter asked him, "Do you really think you are going to change the policies of this country by standing out here alone at night in front of the White House with a candle?" A.J. Muste replied softly: "Oh I don't do this to change the country. I do this so the country won't change me.

This is how @kierongillen.bsky.social describes @jdragsky.bsky.social's "Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast": "Cosy like a nice warm drink, laced [with] carefully-measured arsenic." And that sums up how I've been trying to describe it (and, to a lesser extent, Wanderhome) to players.

Non LotR character who could resist the One Ring. If in doubt, you might want to double-check with the Gonne or the Summoning Dark. (See also: Carrot Ironfoundersson. Also a strong candidate for just plain ignoring it. Carrot and Samwise have some similarities)
Sam Vimes, from Terry Pratchett's Discworld. He's wearing a helmet and smoking a cigar. He does not look impressed.

You know, when you find out that the art you like is made by people you've learned hold views you find wholly repugnant, I don't think you need to disavow ever having enjoyed the art. It's okay to acknowledge you liked or loved that art, but are now putting it aside. That was then, this is now.

90 years ago, Parliament responded to the rise of Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts by passing the Public Order Act, which banned political uniforms, private militias and the threat of force for political objects. The debates make very resonant reading today. Here's the Liberal Robert Bernays. (Short 🧵)
You cannot conduct a fair match when one side is playing with a ball and the other with bombs and, if democracy is to survive, it must be conducted according to definite and recognised rule. One of them is that no political party should resort to any weapon other than reason and argument. The introduction of private armies, as I see it, strikes at the root of democracy. I know it is contended that the Blackshirts are not armed and, therefore, are not an army, but I do not think that argument can be upheld. … Uniformed men in military formation suggest, and are meant to suggest, the idea of force. It is no argument to reply that at this or that demonstration no force is intended. It is an inescapable fact that a uniform in politics symbolises force, to be used either now or in the future.

If "legitimate concerns" were considered to excuse illegitimate methods, then nobody from Just Stop Oil or Palestine Action would have been arrested. So we know it doesn't. In fact that phrase is only ever used in one context. Only in that context is uniformed mob intimidation "peaceful protest"

What happens a lot on social media is when someone (Warren Ellis, Neil Gaiman now Ed Brubaker) has allegations thrown at them people tend to leap out the woodwork saying "their work was never good." That helps no one as it's irrelevant. What matters is their actions and what they did.
