This one's utterly damning. Hilarious as long as you don't actually have to eat (or work) there.

Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

This gets said constantly, but it worth reiterating: Games Workshop being bigger than fishing is important to shout about because you wouldn't know it from government talking points, which are rarely about anything creative or artistic. Growth won't involve fish or steel, it will involve goblins.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

...and any scenario where you're having meaningful conversations or other social interactions with a mythos creature that's not hiding its true nature feels like it's diminishing the horror. Chatting to an 'unmasked' antagonist risks reducing the NPC's stature in some way, especially in Cthulhu.

(Outer Gods and Great Old Ones are different, and Nyarlathotep may well masquerade as a human. Some of the Great Old Ones may also have characteristics and behaviours that humans can rightly or wrongly interpret as a part of a comprehensible personality. But many don't, of course)

I'm also strongly of the opinion that minor mythos creatures should not have individual names and personalities comprehensible to humans. Exceptions apply if they're partly human, were once human or are playing a role and pretending to be human. But don't name your individual Deep Ones or Mi-Go.

...at that point you wonder if its a betrayal of the characters if they didn't know they were playing that kind of game. Or, as someone neatly put it, "you want Cabin in the Woods? Because that's how you get Cabin in the Woods". And they may well be right about that.

In a similar way, if you get towards the end of a campaign or adventure and someone might have to sacrifice their life to save the world... well that's Cthulhu. Whereas if they get that far and discover that their only option is to sacrifice a bunch of other innocent people to save the world...

Any scenario that declares that it doesn't matter what you do or if you all roll brilliantly, the Investigator with the worst result still gets maimed or annihilated... Well. That's a thing. And not a thing I'd want to spring on someone midway through a long game.

"You will never defeat us" is a very funny thing to say after you've just bailed everyone who was involved in whatever the fuck this was
All five men arrested in RAF base plot are British nationals
The five men who were arrested and subsequently released on bail are all British citizens, home secretary Shabana Mahmood has just told the Labour party conference.

She adds that the scene is “now safe” and the residents living near to the RAF base are now able to return home.

“Let this be a reminder: you will never defeat us,” he says.

The panel pointing out how the “peacekeeping force” that replaced the Kreelers was just the same men in different uniforms is rightly celebrated, but it’s striking how drab the Kreeler uniforms are compared to what they’re replaced by; lesser creators would have gone the opposite route.

A couple quick observations here, which should be obvious. 1) insurance “risk pools” work by requiring younger/healthier people who make few or no claims to sign up and pay premiums alongside older/less healthy people who do, essentially covering their costs.

Good restaurants that do post-theatre dining with both a bargain set menu (9:45 onward) *and* full a la carte options are a wonderful thing. (Especially when pre-theatre meals don't happen due to €%#* train delays) We got dinner at 10:30 tonight.

Banks have to deal with that sort of thing for pen names and stage names as well. They generally manage, but there's a certain amount of due diligence that's justified, because fraudsters are sneaky.

And also things like the secretly scripted "forgetting to write a speech and [supposedly] improvising it on the spot" he's used a couple of times. When people write about that carefully curated persona, I think the choice of Boris (professionally) vs "Alexander Boris de Pfeffel" has a place. (2/2)

It doesn't bother me, and I'm still calling him Boris or Johnson (there's a different thread to be written about politicians and first name terms). I do think it's noteworthy though. Boris, more than most politicians, is a construct. The faux forgetfulness, the carefully scruffy hair. (1/2)
