As a Bucks fan too young for 1971, you're goddamn right I'm going to reminisce about the 2021 version forever

Okay, I'll probably miss these episodes then, but I appreciate the explanation. I would have thought you could do both, but obviously you know the metrics/strategy stuff better than me, so fair enough. Thanks

Is there a reason this isn't in the normal TPM podcast feed? Put it on YT, cool, but I scrolled the thumbnails and don't see an obvious need to make it video-exclusive. No graphs or visuals, just you two talking. Surely some TPM members (me) just want to listen in their feed without the YT hurdle

Me: oh wow, this shop has everything my heart desires!

Spooky shopkeeper: yes, I will warn you... every item comes with a price.

Me: yes, I know how shops work

kittydesade

Spooky Shopkeeper: The price may be more than you expect to pay.

Me: Yes, I know how US taxes work, too.

Shopkeeper, increasingly exasperated: I'm trying to tell you that I'm evil and offering these wares with no regard for the harm they will do!

Me, also increasingly exasperated: I know what capitalism is too goddammit

Three panel comic. Panel 1: a high school basketball game. The home team is down 9 points, and some players are looking discouraged on the bench. The coach points to a player just out of frame and says, “flippers, you’re in!” Panel 2: the away team attempts a deep 2-point shot, possibly to beat the buzzer, which is blocked by Flippers, a whale who doesn’t even have his arms up. Panel 3: the game ends and the home team excitedly crowd around Flippers, who won them the game. A player from the away team looks stunned, with his hands on his head.

Yes, all in all, I can recommend Cary Elwes’ ‘As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride’ highly. William Goldman’s 1993 tribute to André is lovely, too: books.google.co.uk/books?id=DBo...
...Gone at 46, he was the most popular figure on any movie set I've ever been on. If he asked you to dinner, he paid, but when you asked him, he paid. One actor, after several free meals, snuck into the kitchen to pay. He felt himself being lifted up in the air. The actor was Arnold Schwarzenegger: "He turned me so I was facing him, and said, ‘I pay’. Then he carried me back to the table like a little boy." Sometimes children and grown-ups would see him and be terrified. Sometimes children would see him, shriek with glee, and begin clambering all over him. There is a scene at the end of Princess Bride where Robin Wright jumped out of the castle window, and Andre was to catch her at the bottom. The shot was set up for Robin to be lifted a foot. Maybe two. The first take, he caught her and gasped, suddenly white like paper, and almost fell to his knees. His back was bad. And getting worse. Andre once said to Billy Crystal, "We do not live long, the big and the small." Alas.

What the hell is the difference between "leaning" and "tilting"? Your website has lots of info on it about methodology but doesn't seem to address this, your most basic vocabulary. I honestly don't understand. The words are synonyms. Are the districts sloping too? Angling? Inclining? Good god man

It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better

The advice I give in my training sessions: If you’re funny, be funny in your talks. If you’re not funny, don’t try to be funny in your talks. *Hand raises* You’re about to ask me “what if I don’t know if I’m funny.” That means no one has ever told you you’re funny. Sorry, you’re not funny.

Business idea: algorithmic-style Dynamic Pricing at restaurants. You can get French onion soup for $1.75 when it's really hot out, but a tomato salad costs $57 in August. Everyone hates it; Softbank has already contributed $150m in funding just off the concept.

some amazing things happening over on threads — ever since they “shut down CERN”
CERN has to be real. Why do the days magically feel longer again? I keep looking at the clock in disbelief.Honestly... I can feel the immediate difference with CERN turning off. It's like turning off the annoying big light in the house that's been on for last 4 years. It's like finally getting some quiet after being immersed in a screaming heavy death metal concert or rave for days and days. It's like there's no restrictions. No hindrances. No more delays. I feel free. They turned off CERN and now the days feel twice as long. I'm TIREDCall me crazy, whatever ya whatever you want but since CERN shut down their machine time IS slower (i saw somewhere that our minutes are actually 60 seconds long again after being 45 seconds since COVID, ive had a mild frontal headache for 2 days and just had this weird energy around me. I can't be the only one, right?!
