The disinformation scares of the 2010s were easy for the elite to dismiss. They were for regular people and propagated through the social media sites they thought they were better for not using. Now the call is coming from inside the house and they’ve got no immunity to it.

We need to incept the idea of Trump renaming the GOP to the Trump Party, and by “incept” I mean have a reporter mention it once within his earshot and he’ll become obsessed with it and not let it go

Come 2028, putting the entire Republican party on trial seems like a frame that could put up some crazy numbers. Because in a lot of the US Republicans have never had to justify themselves. They literally don't know how to.

aust.in.calculable @abw56.bsky.social · 20h
And not to get too high-brow about it all, but this framing also provides the necessary exigence for the direct character attacks Ossoff made. It's not just pugilism for pugilism's sake: he's building a case for why his opponent isn't trustworthy, respectable, or fit for the office he seeks.

aust.in.calculable @abw56.bsky.social · 20h
Beyond the virality of any of the individual hits - this is what should resonate: the Republican party is a contemptible, shameful embarrassment and each of its members should be treated accordingly.

The quadrennial "migrant caravan" doesn't thrill like it used to, so now they're trying to write bribes, incite pogroms, and live stream executions - just so they can get the same high.

Well you can certainly tell that Republicans are believing these polls, given how crazy every one of them - from Trump all the way down to the city dogcatcher is behaving.

Thing we need: more "Superman" Democrats Thing we don't need: South Carolina to flip the Senate
A digitally restored vintage public service poster featuring Superman standing with a diverse group of school children. A speech bubble and caption text read: "And remember, boys and girls, your school, like our country, is made up of Americans of many different races, religions and national origins... If you hear anybody talk against a schoolmate or anyone else because of his religion, race or national origin, don't wait: tell him that kind of talk is un-American. Help keep your school all-American!"

If instead of envisioning a secular rapture, you just begin with the basic assumption that people are born free and work out all the ways we can be free together from there, you’ll very naturally arrive at stunningly elegant solutions like “trans rights” and “freedom of movement.”

The entire modern conservative movement is built on anti-black racism. Its architects have long focused their ire on dismantling the wins of the civil rights movement, and in 2016 they opted to go all-in on white nationalism as a reaction to the Obama majority. That's it.

Also: many of those same pundits think they are "data-driven" because they survey voters and conduct focus groups. That's so damn quaint. Trump's wealthiest allies purchased all the largest social media platforms+all the largest mainstream media outlets. Focus groups CANNOT measure those effects.

I'm just gonna bookmark this for future reference when Dem pundits complain about how the party has trouble communicating its message to voters. The reason you keep running into trouble with your branding isn't campus radicals. The reason is that your opponents purchased all the media outlets.

one of the ways the media shows which side they prefer, is which politicians they quote uncharitably out-of-context and which they clean up for even when what they actually say and do is offensive (the Biden story ran on the front page less than a week before the 24 election)

There are absolutely ways of addressing this, but even if there weren't, I'm substantially less concerned about someone trading their vote for cigs than I am about there being an easy way for the state and political parties to invalidate the voices of giant swaths of their opposition's voters.

this is a good thread by Ben. I'll boil it all down to one thing: labor demand has been low. It's likely bottomed, but isn't rising quickly...yet. Without stronger labor demand, openings are low, so hires are low, so quits are low, so fewer wages are set at the market rate, so wage growth is slow.
