When I tell you white supremacy is built into every single aspect of American law and you cannot have a single effective movement without taking that into account, shit like “it’s illegal to poison a rich white neighborhood but legal to pollute a poor Black neighborhood” is what I mean.

Any Democrat working against Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, was never a Democrat in the first place. They are moderate Republicans who spent years seeking political power by posing as Democrats in a heavily blue area.

An excellent analysis of the reactionary mind.
Thomas’s world is one where reality barely exists. Mountains of research can be dismissed in favor of a handful of op-eds. Dozens of prominent organizations can be disregarded as in thrall to liberal ideologies, while fringe right-wing groups are treated as unbiased purveyors of truth. The right had to build this world because the real one was untenable. In the real world, the empirical reality on hot-button issues favors the left. Trans health care is safe and effective, as are vaccines. Climate change is real. Immigration is a net positive across almost every metric.

Zohran Mamdani, who just bested Cuomo in mayoralty primary, wants to bring universal "school-streets" (school-proximate streets closed to cars + trucks) to #NYC. That's made things a whole lot safer, and healthier, for kids in #Paris and #London, but until now, it's been a non-starter in the US.

One thing I’ve decided during this creative & inspiring week in Paris — it’s time to write my 1st book. On cities & better city-building obviously. Might be 2 books actually, since I don’t know which of my 2 ideas to do first. Any advice from authors out there? Like should I get an agent or not?

the thing with Mamdani is that he’s obviously an incredible political talent - the campaign he’s run has been extremely impressive even if you don’t like his policies the party should be delighted, and that they’re instead pulling out all the stops to beat him speaks volumes

“That they should be the ones to welcome Pope Francis’s coffin in the basilica is because these people are those who represented the focus of his mission,” said Father Giulio Albanese, head of missionary cooperation and communications for the Vicariate of Rome. “They are those who live on the peripheries, geographical and existential peripheries.”
