pixelatedboat aka “mr bluesky” @pixelatedboat.bsky.social · 16/02/2025Embarrassing for modern classical composers that none of them are considered as good as a guy who died in the 1700s. Like being an automotive engineer and getting smoked by the designer of Fred Flintstone’s car 802466191
Ian @laughingcricket.bsky.social · 17/02/2025Not really surprising. I've got to be Rembrandt+some idiot like Jeff Koons or Damien Hirst, just to be able to break even as an artist. We teach most people that the arts happened, but not that arts are still happening. We need to push these dusty arts historians in to the modern world. 000

unsubsam.bsky.social @unsubsam.bsky.social · 17/02/2025I don't think it's embarrassing. Bach or Beethoven would be timeless had they lived in any age. Stravinsky, webern , Hindemith , Schonberg are great composers. 081

Nondescript Man @oldcrank.bsky.social · 17/02/2025Classical was once contemporary, so those composers were the hit makers. I’ve seen concerts from new composers of classical music, they are fantastic, just not popular. My favorite band is 56 yrs old btw, I don’t like any new bands anywhere near as much, and by new I mean this decade, or last 😂 010

A Musician’s Musings @veromakesmusic.bsky.social · 17/02/2025Please tell me you are not referring to Mozart, because he was definitely NOT the best composer to die in the 1700s (Bach was, hands down). There are plenty of modern classical composers that are on par or better than 1700s composers, aside from Bach. 000

wantshoes7.bsky.social @wantshoes7.bsky.social · 17/02/2025A lot of opportunities were lost with the gutting of music education. Mr. Holland's Opus was a good example of showing the connective tissue between classical and modern music. 020

Ungovernable Swan @lobleytea.northsky.social · 17/02/2025It’s not that no modern composer is that good, it’s that 18th century composers were the rock stars of their day. Hobbit Korkie @korkie.bsky.social · 17/02/2025There's a problem with the definition of Modern Classical. Is it New Music which is sonic and pointal? Or could soundtrack composers be included like Williams, Shore, or Creary. Could New Age be considered? George Winston was a helluva composer. And what about Jazz masters? 000
