Lizard of the day: Orange-lipped forest lizard! An Indian species from a monotypic genus! They're green and have orange lines surrounding their lips, hence their name. They're similar to lizards from the Calote genus, but these have a smaller tympanum. They're sadly endangered.

Will travel for cones! Red Crossbills have a specialized bill designed for prying open the stiff cones of conifers in order to get the nutritious seeds on the inside. These enigmatic birds will nest anywhere, at any time of year, provided there is an abundance of food.

At Piney Lakes Reserve today I saw a family with very young children walking in the middle of the off-leash dog area They were guarding a turtle as it walked from one of the Reserve's wetland areas to another It is thoughtful, caring acts like this that gives me hope for humanity Take care 😊

Plant "Pears for your Heirs" 🌱 ... as the saying goes, because Pear trees take so long to produce fruit. And that's from a tree, not from seed, where mine came from. #Harvest 90% complete A few more to grow up, and some small Asian pears left

New followers: Thank you. I post a lot of wildlife photos that I've taken here and there, and always with ALT info. Here's a Pyrenees Asp (Vipera aspis zinnikeri), observed out in the open on a cool and foggy morning in NE Spain last year. More deets in the ALT. #herps #snakes #NaturePhotography 🌿
A top-down image of a coiled snake resting on open ground. The snake's ground color is a grayish-brown, with darker brown markings running from the neck to the tail. These markings consist of short transverse bars that are connected by a stripe of the same color. The result is a zipper-like effect. The snake is a viper, and as such has a solid, stocky body, together with a triangular spear-shaped head. It is perhaps 20 inches (51cm) in length. The snake was encountered crawling in the open on a hillside trail, and immediately drew itself into a defensive coil. Thanks to its small size and my protective footwear, the shot was achieved by leaning over the snake with a 12-60mm lens.

This happy looking raccoon would like to wish you a good rest of the week. #mammals
A black and white night photo showing part of my garden with small landscaping rocks in the foreground, plants shrubs and flowers in the middle and background. A raccoon is sitting in the center of the frame, looking towards the camera with its mouth open, its face looks as though it could be smiling and its eyes look happy, it is indeed very friend shaped. We can see its black face mask and nose, white whiskers and little, raccoon ears. Its tail is only just visible with only a hint of black at the end.

The birds display varied pied feathering with solid white bodies and black markings on the head and neck.
They have prominent, reddish-orange eyes, which are common in many domestic and racing pigeon variants.
The birds are shown close together in a standard social or courting posture, with one gently leaning near the other's beak
