There is a rare (for the area) flock of Elegant Terns at the marina at Gold Beach, Oregon that Kelli has been wanting to visit before they move on. We had great looks today and ample chances at photography, so I'll likely be sharing too many pics of these elegant birds #birding

In the meantime, the habitat restoration area at the south end has been really successful this year. We had Caspian, gull-billed and Forster's terns breed successfully, as well as black skimmers. There are probably thousands of white pelicans here, larges number in probably ten years!

We had reports from better #birders that there were Sabine's Gulls at Hagg Lake in Washington County. Always fun to see the X-wing fighters diving. I only got pics of this juvenile, but there was also a very striking dark-headed adult.

K and I were headed to Wash County today to #bird Wapato when we got an alert from local birder Kyle L that there were Common Terns at Broughton Beach on the Columbia River. Too close to home not to go, & it paid off! This is year Bird #141 for my home county (Multnomah) and #650 for world 2026

We've only ever seen Boreal Chickadees here in Anchorage. Never anywhere else in Alaska or elsewhere. Today they visited us just outside the house where we are staying. I shot these mediocre pics with a cup of coffee in hand #birding

Kelli saw that a Black-headed Gull had been seen late last month in Anchorage. She thought it worth picking through the Short-billed and Bonapart's Gulls @ Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. Took her about 10 minutes to find a bird not reported for almost 2 weeks. New North America #bird for us, #1003.

This morning at Nisqually this adorable juv. BEKI actually startled me when it flew up and landed like 20m away from me, obviously unexpectedly 😂 Just sat there and angrily glared at me for a few minutes before taking off 🪶
