Bit spooky out this morning... #October #Berkhamsted

Spooky foggy scene with a tree with a thick trunk on the right and a twisted branch going across the scene. Other trees silhouetted behind in fog. Dead tree and branches and grass at the bottom.

The itch to do a bit longer form writing & posts on my kofi is increasing. With all the stuff I've been doing, I feel the format here is way too transient even if you get into a habit of retweeting old stuff regularly. On top of that it feels not even remotely as interactive as the olden days.

"Nothing Gold", one of my very few personal paintings of recent years and despite seemingly not resonating with others, one of my favourites I'm very content with. Maybe because its an expression of my grief, losing my "soul cat" Oskar back then and it turning out exactly as I intended.

A long format painting, with a harsh dividing line in the middle. The bottom is almost pitch black with the top depicting a purple cloudy sky with the remnants of a gold orange sunset glow against the black bottom part. In the middle of it is a backlit golden sphere with closed eyes. Its bottom parts which reach below the line has the gold crumble away and sink to the bottom, revealing the teeth and bone of a skull underneath. The painting's title "Nothing Gold" originates from Robert Frosts's poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay", distilled into what to me is the most powerful two word combination to describe immense loss.

There's this saying that no dev sets out to make a bad game, but damn me if some things aren't so easy to notice and fix and turn better that it's hard to believe they've not been kept intentionally for what are very likely very stupid or vain reasons.

Getting the pitchfork ready.

A plastic model pitchfork's end, showing one tine sharpened to a point while the remaining three are still blunt.

HeliPillow™ I just made for @puppytruck.dog so Kittycopter has a comfy spot to nap.

A blue fluffy round throw pillow with a wavy round white trim around it and a white button in the middle. Reminiscent of the markings of a helipad.

Primed the beetle after quite some prep, but the light grey made a lot more things visible to fix.

To show you how regular acrylics like this Vallejo copper compare to the Kaleido paint. Both sprayed on a plastic spoon, no primer. (Please disregard my brain trailing off while recording & saying "do a force". Couldn't do a reshoot after scratching it all up. 😅)

Feelin' a little vain reposting praise about yours truly (again), but I think this is a great example of what a "human art pipeline" actually works like when everyone is allowed to add themselves and their soul to it. You build off each others' ideas and skills to create that magical result.

Latest Character I finished for @puppytruck.dog ! Ms. Microfiche! This one has a crazy lot of parts to animate and the hose texture is tiling so it can UV scroll to make it seem to spool off when she uses the end bit to dangle from.

A cartoony arachnid character consisting out of a hose reel with a handle on top and 6 metal legs wearing pink purple rubber boots. She has a camera with 3 lenses for a face and her arms are a swiss army knife with pliers or scissors and that useless tweezers from army knives stuck on a metal arm with a piece of old gum. There's just too much to describe so I'm stopping here, but you sorta get the idea I hope.

Aesop's The Cock and the Jewel. Ink and gouache on Fabriano Medioevalis, 132 x 85 mm.

'A Cock, scratching the ground for something to eat, turned up a Jewel that had by chance been dropped there. “Ho!” said he, “a fine thing you are, no doubt, and, had your owner found you, great would his joy have been. But for me, give me a single grain of corn before all the jewels in the world.” '

Aesop’s Fables, translated by V.S. Vernon Jones (1912)

Silhouette illustration in black ink of a rooster looking upon a jewel glittering in the grass. The rooster's comb and wattle are painted in red gouache.

Modelled and painted up some rope and a knot for it to go on a metal ring (or anywhere else @puppytruck.dog might find a use for it).

A handpainted 3d model of a rope tied to a metal ring in a knot. As always flat shaded Blender screen snips.

A closer look at the ring showing welding marks on it. As always flat shaded Blender screen snips.

An alternate version of the ring, being a hook making it low hanging fruit with the texture reuse. The knot can also be used just by itself.

So the Kaleido spoons had time to cure for those 72 hours by now and I figured I'd do some quick scratch testing. Will do more and also this is just paint over a blank spoon, no primer or varnish. I'll test those in time as well. But first results are really promising.

Control Resonant out now, End of Abyss out next week. Trying not to spend release day money on games I end up not playing enough/finishing, but these two exude the same energy that Routine & Reanimal did for me, both of which I finished as quickly as I could and I loved Control. So very tempted.

Never before has a turtle turtled this hard. Zoom in and appreciate The Foot

A fantastic painted turtle stands on a snag in a stream. Turtle has a smooth black carapace with bright red edges. Its neck and legs are a glorious riot of yellow racing stripes. It has its neck fully extended staring at the sky and the back right leg and foot are completely extended. This is an epic pose by a creature at the peak of its powers.

I hate when I forget that "Correct Face Attributes" is turned on in Blender and I nudge something a little bit and only hours later realize the Texture Coordinates got fucked up a little bit and that's why the painting didn't match up and I had to correct it. Very "not gonna fix this crap now."
