I see things like "but we have so much media that depicts Nazis as the bad guy" and I'm just sitting here thinking... I think we storytellers vastly overestimate how much fiction can influence people. Like stories are important but the message will be lost on many people.

Go make the art you’ve always wanted to make. Write the stories you’ve been dreaming of. Sing your heart out. Pick up an instrument & play. Do the things you’ve been holding back on because you’re worried about what others might think. Just do it. Do it now. Life is short. Life is precious. Please.

With very few exceptions, Games as a Service is only a temporarily sustainable model in the AAA space. Stop trying to make them last forever and give them a lifecycle with a dedicated endpoint, which can accelerate based on subscriber churn. Have your next game in pre-production, and pivot early.

As I get older, life seems to repeatedly re-affirm the lesson that nothing gets addressed or fixed for you. Hoping it does is like playing the lottery. You really do (unfortunately) have to do / build it yourself. And mostly the process is neither easy nor fun.

since this will always be circulating, i might as well be the first one to put it here: the stretch tips i made many years ago… remember to stop and stretch and take care of your hands! be mindful of your work time & listen to your body.

a bunch of drawn diagrams of hand stretches. the text at the top reads MAKE TIME TO STRETCH!

it shows wrist extensions and flexions, with the arm straight out and hand palm out with the hand gently stretched up and down. the same stretches with the hand in a fist. the same stretch but with the palm against a wall. a stretch of pressing your palms together with wrists parallel to the ground and slowly lowering the heels of the palms. and a gentle shaking out of the hands.

What bugs me about the intentional devaluing of art by tech is that almost anyone can actually learn how to art. Like, it takes time, and failures abound, but the myth that some people just pop out of the womb with a can or can't stamped on their heads is a crock.

Not to sound like a curmudgeon, but when I was a teenager, I took the train to go to the record store to find rare stuff. Spotify is way more convenient, but that wasn't the point. The point was to get out and to feel like you're hunting, to feel like you're living your life. I'm going to the movies, I'm going to this show. What streaming has done-it's very convenient, but it's taken the feeling of going hunting and turned it into we're all just being fed. We're all farm animals that are just being fed, and we're being fed content. You can just stay home. Just stay home. We'll just feed it to you. No wonder everyone's depressed.

I've been seeing a lot of pixel artists struggle with Bluesky's image compression, so I'd thought I'd share how to get clear, crisp pixels on the site! Share to help a fellow pixel-artist! #pixelart #tutorial

When uploading to Bluesky, remember to resize your works to 800%!

Why? Images are converted to .jpeg when uploaded. .jpeg compresses the image into 8x8 pixel blocks.

If a block has more than one colour, that dreaded compression occurs!

We are tradespeople. Period.
