2yrs after I finished my MA History at Goldsmiths, my research rights were bought and I was hired to work as historical consultant on this TV show. It's had BAFTA and International Emmy nominations. I got a book deal, too. Goldsmiths: "No point in MA History, let's fire everyone and delete it."

Until visiting Bowes Castle for the 3rd time last week, I didn’t realise there was a whacking great well right by Henry II’s wee tower. It’s a weird position for a well, and if my general theory about wells at early castles is correct, might suggest there has been an elite complex here pre-C12.

Found in the churchyard of St Paul’s cathedral in London in 1852, this runestone reads ‘Ginna and Toki had this stone set up’. It shows a creature with its front paws entangled with a snake. It was probably raised in the early 11th century, when Danish king Cnut ruled England. #medievalsky #london

Ending the week on a high by meeting what may be the oldest Scottish book still in Scotland. Late C10/early C11, it is a psalter in Irish minuscule, presumably created in Scotland, exact provenance unknown. Richly illum. initials throughout, with fine interlacing and lots of brilliant animal heads.
