Walls of the Norman castle of Roebuck, long thought demolished, survive beneath plaster in a Dublin university building. Its oldest sections date to the early 13th century, and its medieval courtyard remains in use.

I used to be obsessed with prehistoric and medieval woodworking In my Airbnb in Bath looking at a timber beam, hewn from a smallish oak - leaving a curved waney edge. It was worked with two different broad iron axes, one of them had a chip on the cutting edge, leaving a distinctive blade signature

The WW2 Bletchley Park Bombes were electro-mechanical devices using rotors to simulate Enigma settings, breaking German codes, and enabled winning the war, or at least shortening it. The origins of modern computers, thanks to them today we can send messages like “I hope this email finds you well”
