I generally appreciate that airlines offer the biding for upgrade option, but I also wonder about how they set the pricing thresholds. For an upcoming TAP itinerary the prices are well above my consideration threshold. Especially that mediocre PremY setup. #PaxEx
Bidding for upgrade options from TAP, for a ~6 hour overnight flight, starting around $1000 for business class and ~$500 for Economy Prime.

That number is mainline only. The release is clear about that. Speculation is fun. I even include that bit at the end of my reporting. But should be identified as such, especially when blended into a thread reporting known facts.

Perhaps. But that's not what today's announcement is. 🤷

That is not entirely accurate, but neither was my initial headline. The carrier previously announced ~500 Airbus planes would be fitted. Today's news covers ~600 Boeing planes. Regional jets are sticking with SES for now.

Suddenly going from free high-speed service to nil on board would be a nightmare scenario for the airlines. Airlines historically have been hesitant to quickly swap out on-board hardware. That's shifted a bit, but it is still massively expensive and disruptive to do.

Sure, and there are going to be cases they pass over to the real authorities. But the structure creates that diversionary program. Sometimes cases the DA wouldn't bother with end up with punishment of a sort. But there are plenty that could be prosecuted for real handled "internally" instead.

It is more than just the police. They have a full judicial system in place. Getting "JA'd" was what it was called when you got in trouble at Cornell and had a hearing before the Judicial Administrator instead of a real judge. There was even a fake public defender program for students.

I had a couple interactions with the Cornell Police while there. And with the UF PD while growing up in Gainesville. These departments exist to keep the local communities happy by not taxing their resources. And to shelter the students from the real world criminal justice system.

There can be a social pressure aspect of a fantasy football league. My old job defo had one. I participated, mostly through absurdity and screwing with everyone else's "system" wherever I could, not actually trying to win. That's how I made it fun for me. And then I stopped when it wasn't fun.

We pay $0.75/stick for the local generic version. I don't think the price has changed in the 8 years we've lived here. Cabot is $3.99 and Land O Lakes is $4.89. The fancier stuff is also on offer; Kerrygold is $9.29/pound. That's still not $4/stick, though.

RSA 659:13(c)(3) allows the Supervisor of the Checklist to determine the voter's identity and qualifications are established. This guidance from the SOS office - and the court ruling - say that the student IDs can be part of that process. Not quite like before, but it'll work.

Seth Miller @wandrme.paxex.aero · 05/10/2026
Great news for students who vote in NH: While Student IDs "are no longer expressly valid to establish voter identity under RSA 659:13, election officials may consider them, along with other available evidence." Gives poll workers flexibility to ensure students can vote. #NHPolitics #nhtok
On Friday, October 2, the U.S. District Court for New Hampshire issued an order ruling that: “although student identification cards are no longer expressly valid to establish voter identity under RSA 659:13, election officials may consider them, along with other available evidence, when determining voter identity under RSA 654:12(d)(4) and RSA 659:13(c)(1) and (3).”

Accordingly, effective immediately and until further notice:

When a person is registering to vote, student identification cards may constitute “other evidence that reasonably establishes that it is more likely than not that [a voter registrant] is who they claim to be.” RSA 654:12.
When a person is checking in to vote on election day, ballot clerks must direct a voter with a student identification card to the supervisors of the checklist, who shall “review the voter's qualifications and determine if the voter's identity can be verified.” See RSA 659:13, I(c)(1) & (3).
Neither the Court’s order nor the statutory provisions that the Court cites provide any guidance regarding how to determine when a student identification card constitutes “other evidence that reasonably establishes that it is more likely than not that [a voter registrant] is who they claim to be” under RSA 654:12; or how to determine whether a “voter's identity can be verified” under RSA 659:13, I(c)(1) & (3).

Others in the org are saying the same thing, and are sharing some data suggesting it really is working. There's also a scale challenge, though. a TAP exec sat on a panel I ran last year, next to a UA exec. The TAP guy was jealous of UA's scale, noting TP was too small to pull off the ad revenue.
