James Islington’s newest book, Scion, isn’t quite the 700+ page behemoth he usually puts out but my man still packs it with smart world-building, sharp plotting and twists, and a really fleshed out POC character. Cyberpunk yes, but with a heart transplant from Murderbot and action movie pacing.

I absolutely loved Everybody’s Perfect by @bluejo.eurosky.social. A gentle, inventive, and protean fantasy told relay-race style across a fantastical, otherworldly Venice-like city. Full of perfectly formed characters and some miraculous world(s)building.

Finished my reread of The Daughters’ War and The Blacktongue Thief by @buehlmeister.bsky.social in time for the new one. I truly believe that these will go down as masterpieces of the fantasy genre. There are more rich ideas and perfect turns of phrase in each chapter than in many whole books.
