I’m a shooter for their newer stuff but it’s far from the strongest of those. Gjallarhorn, Oden’s Hunt, and Die With A War Cry kinda rip though.

@tkingfisher.com good morning, Kingfisher and/or Wombat. Out of curiosity, if a reader were to, hypothetically of course, discover a typo in a copy of one of your books, is there a recommended path to getting that info to the correct folks at, let’s just say Tor Nightfire, ahead of the paperback?

i should clarify, when i write people doing bad things, it's because i am bad. they are me. more importantly, when you read about those bad things, they also become you. that's how story works. in fact, you are going to think about murder before this skeet ends. how's that feel, sicko.

James Islington’s newest book, Scion, isn’t quite the 700+ page behemoth he usually puts out but my man still packs it with smart world-building, sharp plotting and twists, and a really fleshed out POC character. Cyberpunk yes, but with a heart transplant from Murderbot and action movie pacing.
The cover of Scion by James Islington. A figure covered in a cybernetic parts hangs suspended by glowing cables over a neon blue cityscape.

I absolutely loved Everybody’s Perfect by @bluejo.eurosky.social. A gentle, inventive, and protean fantasy told relay-race style across a fantastical, otherworldly Venice-like city. Full of perfectly formed characters and some miraculous world(s)building.
The cover of Everybody’s Perfect by Jo Walton. A cloaked and masked figure is surrounded by several Venetian carnivale masks. In the background, dark mists swirl across a bridge arching over a canal.

The literacy crisis is not just referring to people's ability to literally read and write. It's also people's inability to read for context. I've been a public educator for over 20 years and I have never, ever seen it this bad.

AP Stylebook warns against anthropomorphizing AI systems: “Avoid language that gives them human characteristics… Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.”
APStylebook @APStylebook

Artificial intelligence systems do not think, feel, want or understand. Avoid language that gives them human characteristics. This is called anthropomorphizing, when we ascribe human traits, emotions or behaviors to non-human things, such as animals or inanimate objects.
Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.

Finished my reread of The Daughters’ War and The Blacktongue Thief by @buehlmeister.bsky.social in time for the new one. I truly believe that these will go down as masterpieces of the fantasy genre. There are more rich ideas and perfect turns of phrase in each chapter than in many whole books.
Two hardcover books stood upright on a pinewood table. The cover of The Daughters’ War by Christopher Buehlman is black, white, and red and shows a kneeling woman in armor among a field of corpses. The cover of The Blacktongue Thief is yellow on black and white and shows two human figures and a cat walking a steep path past skeletons toward a distant tower. Between the books is a crouching tabby cat with white markings. His ears are airplaned in confusion at being expected to pose for this photo, his eyes not looking quite at the camera because he, like Billy Boy, don’t see too good
