Thinking about comics again, and I remember this moment in a comic book that seems insane today. THE PUNISHER ARMORY (1990-1994) ran for 10 issues, and was mostly devoted to a brutally realist depiction of firearms and other weapons, written and drawn by Eliot Brown. Then you get this page.

I feel the need to confess something. Shirley Jackson's THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE (1959) is brilliantly conceived, exceptionally well written, a modern masterpiece of a novel, perfect in its precision, an instant classic. Wouldn't change a word of it. I hate it SO MUCH.

Depends on your definition. Edmond Hamilton could write some very unusual, non-humanoid aliens, and C. L. Moore could write some that appeared human but weren't. Space opera and planetary romance wasn't all humanoid alien princesses or B.E.M.s, but there were a lot of both.

Not a lot where they actually interact. She does appear in some comics like HERALD: LOVECRAFT & TESLA, and she gets mentioned every now and again, but there was very little hard information on Susie Lovecraft, and she died before his writing career took off, so many creators gloss the relationship.

Lovecraft was a product of his historical context and his own decisions; he was writing and found an audience at a point where scientific consensus about the universe and deep time were changing, and he was very specifically moving away from many traditional weird

Lovecraft did not like Anderson's WINESBURG, OHIO (1919), and that partially inspired "The Rats in the Walls," as he gave his family weird secrets worth keeping in the closet instead of garden-variety affairs and murders. Edgar Lee Masters and Sinclair Lewis appear less often in HPL's letters...

J. C. Henneberger and his partner J. M. Lansinger achieved success with a magazine called COLLEGE HUMOR and THE MAGAZINE OF FUN (1920), which were hits, then in diversified into DETECTIVE TALES (1922) and WEIRD TALES (1923). A lot of WT was funded on credit, however.
