blurry phone pic of a kid's drawing of a crab in markers. the anatomy is extremely wonky and stubby but all the anatomical details are there.

portrait of an orange hermit crab in circular, ornate blue frame. the crab is in a snail shell with various worms and bryozoans encrusting its surface.

This seems as good an excuse to throw in one of my favs of these comics

A 4 panel comic titled "Samus's vacation"

Panel one, a cutely drawn Samus walks through a city. She narrates "I, too, am a girl... During vacation..."
Panel 2, Samus gazes up at the twin suns, and continues "Beneath the warm sunlight..."
Panel 3, a wide shot of Samus in a meadow, "On the wide, grass plain..."
Panel 4, she's curled up in her morphball in the field, a bird flies past and a futuristic city can be seen on the horizon, and concludes her narration "I make myself at home", before saying to herself "Aaah... relaxation!"

As much as I love buff badass lesbian Samus, I also really love the version of her from that one Super Metroid gag manga where she's this weirdo obsessed with round objects and hiding in small spaces

Metroid manga: Round and Round
An Unexpected Discovery

Samus: I haven't been back to my starship in a long while.
Samus: It's gotten very dirty. It should be cleaned.
(Samus notices something while cleaning)
Samus: Oh!
(Samus is now curled into a ball and tucked into a small space)
Galactic Federation Voice: Samus! Report in! What are you doing? Respond!
Samus: Aaah! It's perfect for turning into a ball here!

Lots of Information

Samus: This is Samus! I've been exploring many places on my mission!
Galactic Federation Voice: Have you really been doing anything?
Samus: If you don't believe me, just take a look at this map!
Galactic Federation Voice: Oh! I see you've been rapidly progressing!
Samus: See, see?
(Galactic Federation Guy looks at Samus's map, which is full of her notes)
Galactic Federation Guy: As for these notes...
The notes: "Here's a roundy, and it's very nice!"
"Here's another."
"Rolly place."
"There was a roundy here, but it broke down."

Ruby Bridges was 6-years-old when she stepped into the history books. Bravely accompanied by her mother, she was the first Black child to desegregate an all-white school in the South. It was not long ago… Today is her birthday. She is still with us. She is 72. Happy birthday, Ruby Bridges 💜

This is seismic news for fisheries scientists. Northern cod is *the* iconic symbol of total fisheries collapse due to overfishing (and other factors) *and* the iconic symbol of a complete failure to recover for decades afterwards. This is like announcing the complete recovery of bison on land.

There are now two accompanying mosaics that are afforded similar reverence, though the original St Rat is still the most revered.

Cal Anderson Park, Seattle, three mosaics on the grey pumphouse over the reflecting pool. Left, Hot Rat Mother, an upright rat in a dress with a halo and a crow flying overhead; Center, an unnamed piece featuring a bird in radiant light flying over a group of small upright rats; Right, the original Hot Rat Summer aka St Rat, upright rat with a halo next to a burning heart

my brother & his partner are telling me an insane story about this local deity called "st. rat" which is apparently a mosaic relief put up by some queers in seattle. the city kept trying to paint over it, but people would repeatedly just use acetone and remove the paint until the city gave up

may i interest you in trans-bird link to get you through your day?

Reference sheet for Lina by Shanzepoo

Images on the left briefly illustrate Link's transformation into Lina. Images on the upper left show Link curiously trying on a rito shaped mask. The image on the lower left shows a surprised looking rito with characteristics similar to Link's.

On the right is a full body reference of Lina, along with references for the rito mask, and her the patterns on her tail feathers.

A comic by Nerdytoast.

In the first panel, a rito named hearth says “wow…This place is really coming along! Not every day a new rito moves into the village, you know.” Off panel, Lina replies “thank you Harth.”

In the second panel, Harth looks taken aback, as Lina continues “for everything.”

In the third panel, Lina looks thoughtful.

In the fourth panel, Lina perks up, explaining “s-sorry, this is all still so new to me… You’ve been such a big help and I’m nervous about the rest of the villagers and-…”

In the fifth panel, Harth interrupts as he cups Lina’s beak. “Hey, listen.. I’m sure a cute songbird like yourself will have no trouble fitting in.” Lina looks thoroughly flustered at the statement.

Comic by Shanzepoo

In the first panel, Lina is cleaning a table while Zelda eats a pie. Zelda says "Thank you again for hosting me, Link. I cannot believe how much your baking has improved."

In the second panel, Lina shoots Zelda a patient smile. "Oh," Zelda exclaims. "Sorry, Lina, I am still getting used to this change. Of course, I am sure this is a much bigger change for you than it is for me."

In the third panel, Lina replies "A bit, but the rito have been very accommodating."

In the forth panel, Lina continues to explain. "They housed me in the communal kitchen, which I've turned into my bakery. Nobody here seems to know who I was... And if they do, they do not address me as the hero. There are two thought bubbles, one showing Lina cooking over a pot, and another showing Tulin suspiciously staring a sheepish Lina over as he mutters "you seem familiar..."

In the fifth panel, Zelda suddenly looks very excited. "I see... So, any would-be suitors yet?" she asked, coyly, seemingly to Lina's surprise.

In the sixth panel, Lina meekly scratches her cheek. "Well, uh," she says. There is a thought bubble in which Harth sidles up slyly behind her.

Art by Gaoz. Sadly, Gaoz does not have any social media presence that I can find.

Harth stands in the foreground, looking mildly embarrassed. Before him, Lina stands with a bow, looking back at him with a smug smile on her face. Before her is a row of targets, each with an arrow in the bullseye. Rito Village stands in the background.

this is the kind of wholesome content i needed to see today

It's also clear, however, that Furnari, despite no one having commissioned him to make the statue, was hoping to make money. He said he had expected unnamed wealthy figures to donate to him - he spent $100,000 on steel, resin and labor - but that has not come to pass.
In desperation, Furnari set up an online fundraising campaign, hoping to raise an initial $150,000, but potentially millions of dollars, which he said would allow him to take the statue on tour.
As of Thursday, he had raised $1,400.
"I was thinking that it was going to resonate with the world, with whoever, but man, people are strange out there," he said. "Meaning like, nobody is really coming up with support, especially financial support. So far I've spent all my money on this."

“Things financially are a total, absolute nightmare. It’s like wow. People are cheap, man. You know, people talk, talk — I know lots of people out there, and everybody’s so cheap. You know, like, it’s disgusting how cheap they are.”

Furnari’s latest plan is to place the statue in Times Square on 10 September — the anniversary of Kirk’s death. He hopes that will drum up interest, and maybe allow him to recoup some of his costs.

Until then, Furnari is left with a 6ft 4in statue of a renowned racist, which he has spent $100,000 making, and which no one wants to buy. Maybe it is cursed after all.

OH MY FUCK THEY ACTUALLY DID THAT

Rabbi Yirmeya raises a dilemma: If one leg of the chick was within fifty cubits of the dovecote, and one leg was beyond fifty cubits, what is the halakha? The Gemara comments: And it was for his question about this far-fetched scenario that they removed Rabbi Yirmeya from the study hall, as he was apparently wasting the Sages’ time.

Japanese dude goes to America for the World Cup and discovers bottomless chips and salsa

My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude."
Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man.
I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy.
Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived.
I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most.
Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and l intend to honor all of it.
