I think westerners tend to underestimate just how oppressive copyright is and how much worse it would be if it were possible to enforce globally. Enabling textbook and academic piracy is one of the more liberatory impacts of the internet. Money is too cheap for us to fully understand how vital it is

Don't treat surface-level metaphors about AI as if they describe fundamental reality

This is why the concept and category of the "human" is not our fucking ally. Will never be our fucking ally. When you fetishize the "human" as response to AI, you simply empower fascists to champion human-nationalism until boring plumbline veganism is "anti-human," to say nothing of trans folks.

Yep. See also Mussolini constantly quoting anarchists. Fascism arose as a response to anarchism, we both cut through the tangled delusions of liberalism, but fascism simply inverts anarchist moral values so that might is right. Fascists are often sharply clearheaded about what the state is.

Also Torres is IN FAVOR of an authoritarian AI god controlling us!! It's just a classic "let's use technology to create a totalitarian state to stop technology" anti-transhumanist like Bostrom and a ton of the neoreactionaries! This is who you're credulously citing to dunk on transhumanists!!
Wittes and Gabriella Blum (2015) suggest, we will need new forms of governance to survive.
But what exactly might a new governing system look like? What form would it take? I
have elsewhere argued that we may need to begin designing superintelligent algorithms for
the specific task of governing. If, as I have claimed above, intelligence yields power, then
the superior intelligence of a supersmart algorithm could restore the “monopoly” needed
for states to effectively provide their raison d’être, namely, security. Yet this proposal

It's been widely noted that Torres is batshit dishonest in their lossy reductive "TESCREAL" account in ways that writes out the long history of anarchist & socialist transhumanists, cosmists, etc. Today I learned they EXPLICITLY grounds hostility to transhumanism in hostility to anarchism!!
But there is an even more pressing problem associated with the dual usability, growing
power, and increasing accessibility of emerging technologies. For states to provide security,
they need a Weberian “monopoly” of force, power, and violence. Without this monopoly,
efforts to impose law and order will be ineffectual, resulting in a state of Hobbesian anarchy.
The crucial idea here is that the democratization of science and technology is empowering
nonstate actors more than state actors (see Figure 4). When individuals have the capacity

If you can envision farm labor in a non-exploitative system, you're able to distinguish a thing as such from the system of power it's implemented in. So why not also do that with labor-saving technology, instead of just assuming that everyone who wants it must be envisioning it within capitalism?

People frame IR’s tyranny and US/Israel’s imperialist aggression as a choice to be made. Even the “good” leftists say “we reject both choices”. But these aren’t choices, they’re realities.

Endless discourse can happen about which choice is better, how there is no other choice and so it’s silly to reject both, or how people supporting one choice deny the violence implied in the other. I have been part of this discourse myself.

But it’s all fucking stupid because we are not talking about abstract possibilities. We live in the middle of the realization of both of these “options” as a reality.

0x04 Xenofeminism is a rationalism. To claim that reason or rationality is
'by nature' a patriarchal enterprise is to concede defeat. It is true that
the canonical 'history of thought' is dominated by men, and it is male hands
we see throttling existing institutions of science and technology. But this
is precisely why feminism must be a rationalism -- because of this miserable
imbalance, and not despite it. There is no 'feminine' rationality, nor is
there a 'masculine' one. Science is not an expression but a suspension of
gender. If today it is dominated by masculine egos, then it is at odds with
itself -- and this contradiction can be leveraged. Reason, like information,
wants to be free, and patriarchy cannot give it freedom. Rationalism must
itself be a feminism. XF marks the point where these claims intersect in a
two-way dependency. It names reason as an engine of feminist emancipation,
and declares the right of everyone to speak as no one in particular.
