Via a survey experiment in the United States, we find: 1) Perceptions of position in the local (county) income distribution are just an inaccurate 2) Local income corrections have a more consistently robust effect on meritocracy beliefs & redistribution preferences than national corrections

Analysis of our #data was conducted for research on #inequality and wellbeing published by the Journal of Happiness Studies (@springernature.com). Sandra Bohmann and Fabian Kalleitner (@lmu.de 🇩🇪 ) investigated whether perceived unfair inequality has a negative effect on #wellbeing.

Having run similar analyses a while back, I raised an eyebrow when I looked at Fig. 3 of this paper. Examining the code shows that the labels may have been swapped: "Concerned winners" are no more likely to support the AfD than "unconcerned losers" (contrary to what is reported in the paper).

Does being high-skilled protect you from ethnic bias when applying for a UK visa? In a new pre-registered experiment to be published in International Migration Review, I find that high occupational status doesn't shield immigrants from ethnic prejudice — it may activate it.
