Key Points
1) Ob ökonomische Krisen radikalisieren, entscheidet sich historisch je nachdem, wen ein Schock trifft und welches Deutungsangebot bereitsteht: Arbeitslosigkeit nützte in Weimar der KPD, der Bankenschock von 1931 der NSDAP vor allem dort, wo Antisemitismus verankert war.
—     Fiskal- und Geldpolitik wirken: Austerität erhöht die Stimmenanteile radikaler Parteien, Sozialausgaben senken sie; politisch ausschlaggebend ist nicht die Inflationsrate, sondern der reale Kaufkraftverlust.
2) Populistische Parteien an der Macht lösen ökonomische Probleme aus: Wirtschaftswachstum geht zurück, Inflation und Staatsverschuldung steigen; ein durchgehendes Begleitmerkmal ist die Entwertung von demokratischen Institutionen. 
3) In der Migration zählt die Form der Begegnung, nicht die Zahl. Exposition ohne Kontakt erhöht die rechte Wahl, dauerhafter und gleichberechtigter Kontakt senkt sie; Status- und Identitätsmotive wiegen häufig schwerer als Arbeitsmarktkonkurrenz.
4) Die Befunde fügen sich zu Rückkopplungsschleifen: Populismus ist nicht nur Symptom ökonomischer Krisen, sondern auch deren Ursache.
