saw another reel of a teacher grading on “professionalism” in the classroom, and then being snarky with “I don’t want to hear anyone say its not equitable because its subjective, I don’t care” I swear, as the education crisis gets more dire, I’m seeing more and more teachers turn reactionary.

The NYT lost the Pulitzer for their transphobic podcast series with Azeen Ghorayshi to Pablo Torre and his reporting on the Clippers. They're salty about it so of course they're not going to properly credit him.
Screenshot of an X (Twitter) post by journalist Julie K. Brown (@jkbjournalist) criticizing coverage by The New York Times and The Athletic.
The post text reads:
"It is shameful that @nytimes @TheAthletic buried the fact that the biggest punishment in NBA history was the result of an investigation by journalist @PabloTorre. And to call it the result of a 'podcast episode' is a further slap in the face. He won a Pulitzer for this story and they call it an 'episode' instead of, at the outset -- crediting him with exposing this scandal. Really really lame."
Below the text, the timestamp shows "8:18 AM · Sep 3, 2026 · 32.7K Views".

She also really debunks the common justifications about religion, region, and age. Your grandparents and parents have shitty values because they have shitty values, not because of anything else. They could do better. Anyone can use their eyes to see the world and have the correct read.

Even if this first point is true (it is laughably not), it still completely discounts all external costs. The entire use case for this technology is predicated on a disinterest in the harms suffered by others.

Good lord I wish some of you could read on this text based social media website.
Yeah. This is Jack Dorsey saying Twitter wants to be AT Protocol, not a product. Here we are, and that’s Bluesky in big ways, but it is also a product. People know what that logo means. Political pundits say “the Bluesky crowd,” and that signifies whatever they want it to signify. I’m just wondering if you want to break that branding in any meaningful way.

Yeah, we want to expand it. “Breaking” is maybe the wrong word, but yes, we want to expand more and more so that Bluesky means not just one thing, not just liberal politics, for example. I will point to sports as an example from the last year. We’ve made a very concerted effort to bring on sports leagues and sports writers, and it’s worked really well. There are a ton of sports conversations now on the app, and those people come here for the sports, not for the liberal politics. It’s possible to expand.

this is an interesting interview and if i were clipping it for social media i would have excerpted "We're still a place where we don't downrank links. We love sending traffic to people. We send two million clicks a day to publishers" rather than the part that'll just piss people off lol

I think it also revealed just how quickly a bunch of otherwise very hard problems can be to solve with global collective action. The fuckin Ganga was running clear water for the only time in my lifetime because for 2 weeks nobody threw garbage in it. The canals in Venice had fish.

My hypernormalization obsession continues. This is a game from another age, for another time.
The specialist retail space is disappearing. The end of games being printed on discs will damage player numbers as it erases sharing, borrowing and pre-owned sales. The touchstones we associate with AAA (and GTA) releases, things like lavish physical editions and midnight launches, are now consigned to the history books. Console prices keep escalating while the people making their games live in constant peril. Everything is different now, and Grand Theft Auto VI landing right in the middle of it all, same as it always has, feels almost perverse. It's a game, and a release ordeal, from another age, like Dutch begging Arthur for one more big score. To look past GTA's release, among the crumbling walls and poisoned air of the AAA space, it's almost impossible to conceive of any future video game being this, or doing this, in the same way ever again.Note that I am not mourning this; if cowardice has been the defining trait of AAA gaming's executive class for the past decade, then obscenity has come a close second. The fact Grand Theft Auto VI's total spend will be over one billion dollars while everything else collapses around it is an embarrassment to Rockstar, publishers Take-Two and the entire medium of video games. It's Sodom and Gomorrah type shit, and some would be forgiven for thinking maybe God is right to smite this sector of gaming in its wake.

The world is not postliterate. At times, & especially in the reception, a parochial story about US is masquerading as a story about humanity & civilization. Post-literacy might spread, but that would require it becoming part of a cultural imperialist project, which bring me to my main point. 5/

As a US politician you can routinely call for, and use your considerable power to vote for and agitate for the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent people around the world and it doesn't count as killing them for some reason. A person who does that is not a killer for some reason.

Calling this line from McCarthy a "clunky" "mistake" based on "aversion to punctuation" ayfk, did an AI write this (probably)
A screenshot from the NYT "do you like AI" bullshit quiz reads:

"You preferred human writing.
You’re either sharply attuned to the qualities that make for great writing, or a lucky guesser. Maybe you also noticed that human writing often includes some clunky phrases, like this passage from Cormac McCarthy’s “Blood Meridian,” caused by the author’s aversion to punctuation: “As well ask men what they think of stone.”

A.I. used to make mistakes like these. But today’s systems are much more fluid than their predecessors — so fluid, in fact, that finding grammatical errors or nonstandard syntax is often a hint that you’re looking at a human’s prose, not a machine’s."
