On depicting dragons.
We already know that the bobbleheads are outright lying about what Al and AGI mean
altogether, and where they are in R&D. We've got a lot of voices on the "other side"
of Al. Don't forget Altman is one of them. The purported mission of OpenAl is to make the most dangerous thing in the world, but be extremely careful in a way that a purely profit-motivated entity couldn't, to ensure it stays docile. Half of his public statements
take the tone of "I'm scared of my monster! Stop it before it ends the world!" This is a doomsday cult. I feel the need to reiterate this about doomsday cults: they are wrong and lying. INVARIABLY. A successful cult leverages its detractors. It constructs, suggests, and maintains ways to posture against it. If you despair over it, fight or conspire against it alone, or let it paralyze you, you legitimize it. That makes you a cultist, and an even more disenfranchised cultist than you'd be as a cheerleader. A
FEARFUL CULTIST IS THE DEFAULT KIND.
YOU ARE THE CORE CONSTITUENCY.
THESE THINGS RUN ON FEAR.

Even people who use genAI *reluctantly*, because their job requires it or else they get fired, or because they feel they need to understand it firsthand, end up anthropomorphizing the bucket of hot dogshit. They'll find themselves saying it believes, it insists, it refuses to understand, etc.

Navier-Stokes lost in translation: Why Lean verification of AI autoformalisation does not guarantee correct natural language proofs

It's become particularly nasty with generative AI, however, because now said CEOs can still see an end result that mimics the thing they don't understand—and are able to self-delude themselves into thinking it's replicable at scale, or that it's even producing the same quality as the product they've actually been selling.

After all, if actual studies are being done into AI-induced psychosis that's impacting us serfs, there's nothing to say the executive suite is immune, either. Especially given that a lot of them don't even understand why others are put off. It's become particularly nasty with generative AI, however, because now said CEOs can still see an end result that mimics the thing they don't understand—and are able to self-delude themselves into thinking it's replicable at scale, or that it's even producing the same quality as the product they've actually been selling.

Ending snippet excerpt from a longer Maps review: "I asked for my patients rights, and they gave me a booklet in Spanish and refused me one in English. I can read some Spanish, so l brought up some of the rights they were violating, and they took my booklet away and told me to sit back down."

‘Say yes and never do it’ Mel Brooks knew how to deal with the studios
You have some wonderful stories of basically getting away with stuff at the studios.

I’d learned one very simple trick: say yes. Simply say yes. Like Joseph E. Levine, on “The Producers,” said, “The curly-haired guy—he’s funny looking. Fire him.” He wanted me to fire Gene Wilder. And I said, “Yes, he’s gone. I’m firing him.” I never did. But he forgot. After the screening of “Blazing Saddles,” the head of Warner Bros. threw me into the manager’s office, gave me a legal pad and a pencil, and gave me maybe twenty notes. He would have changed “Blazing Saddles” from a daring, funny, crazy picture to a stultified, dull, dusty old Western. He said, “No farting.” I said, “It’s out.”That’s probably the most famous scene in the movie, the campfire scene.

I know. He said, “You can’t punch a horse.” I said, “You’ll never see it again.” I kept saying, “You’re absolutely right. It’s out!” Then, when he left, I crumpled up all his notes, and I tossed it in the wastepaper basket. And John Calley, who was running [production at] Warner Bros. at the time, said, “Good filing.” That was the end of it. You say yes, and you never do it.

That’s great advice for life.

It is. Don’t fight them. Don’t waste your time struggling with them and trying to make sense to them. They’ll never understand.

Generative AI is not only fundamentally based on the rejection of consent, but also *standards*. Artists have been micromanaged and hounded over individual pixels, academics fighting to defend every minute detail of their thesis, etc, and then are tossed away in favor of the get shit wrong machine.
