Same. It isn't that difficult! Just don't be a dick and the details take care of themselves.

In spite of being of the correct generation to have grown up while "Peanuts" was still in active publication, it's always a little surreal to be reminded that the most popular comic strip in the English-speaking world for fifty solid years was about an eight-year-old with clinical depression.

While Putin is threatening Europe with nuclear weapons at Valdai, his European bootlickers like Glenn Diesen and Roger Köppel are sitting in the front row and nodding. At the same time, Russia is bombing Ukrainian civilians and starving towns like Oleshky. Time to sanction these traitors.

Could the "LLMs can't do anything" crowd and the "LLMs can do everything" crowd go somewhere private to yell at each other so the rest of us can have a normal "this new tech can do things previous tech couldn't but is limited in various ways, let's figure out best uses and regulations" conversation?

Yeah, I think the best way to avoid botched executions is to stop executing people.

Good thread. For my own part, even before the current lunatic administration, the US's barbarity, exemplified here, is one of the main reasons I've never had much interest in visiting. No country that does these sorts of things is a civilised country.

The first rule of Overexplaining Club is you do not talk about Overexplaining Club because this is a secret club and we want it to stay a secret, but if you talk about it then people will know it exists, thus ruining the secrecy.

My fave Kubrick anecdote - David Prowse on acting in A Clockwork Orange: 'So you want me to carry Patrick Magee, who weighs 17Olbs, plus the wheelchair, another 30lbs, so 200lbs, down the stairs & then do a dialogue scene?' 'Yeah, you can do it.' 'I know but your name isn't One Take Kubrick, is it?'

rough first week for humans at the intergalactic council. everyone was really nice but we spent a lot of time at orientation trying to figure out what made us unique among all the galaxy's species. turns out we're the only ones who thought to deep fry cheese. that's it. we're the fried cheese planet

Again: "Tilly Norwood" is not a person; it is a shoddy, and also pretty gross puppet. Stop referring to it as "she," and start asking whether there might be something a bit off about wanting to promote a sexualized but also childlike "actor" that can never tell its creators or users "no."

I’ve worn a grubby RNLI cap for decades. I sound London, but I was born in Truro and I was a basically feral (Gen X) kid wandering the coast path with a dog until sunset for a lot of my early life. The lifeboats are in the fabric like trawlers and farms and pasties and fish and chips.

The RNLI is the closest you will ever get to actual Batman. When rescue is visibly, viscerally, obviously impossible; when the water is a smothering, thundering black wall and the wind is screaming straight from Hell; when you are absolutely going to die: someone’s hand pulls you out and you don’t.

I hate it, but there's a part of me that feels weirdly smug about it. Tilly Norwood is the mold that society has been wishing it could push all us weird, brainy, loudmouth fat broads into for as long as I can remember. That mold can be simulated; you can't AI-generate an original loudmouth broad.

As before, we need to find meaningful work and education/training for asylum seekers to help them integrate into society. Having nothing to do all day isn’t healthy for anyone.

The only thing I know about Ed Sheeran is that he regularly butchers Fairytale of New York, turning it from a whiskey-soaked masterpiece into a caramel latte at the shopping centre. That alone should lead to cancellation.

The nail on head issue is that if you can’t pay your bills on minimum wage there is no point in working. The minimum wage ought to guarantee food, shelter, welfare, and a bit of pleasure and self-indulgence.

If your idea of patriotism is calling any member of the RNLI, an entirely voluntary organisation whose crews daily risk their lives to save others, a traitor, then you are beyond hope of redemption.

We now have a mob of masked, violent fascists, threatening & abusing charity workers & their families to stop them saving drowning people. They’ve disrupted ports & intimidated passengers & workers. Still no action from the police & the weakest possible statement from the PM. It’s disgusting.

A drawing showing a dock with masked figures all in black standing on a dock, one has a loudspeaker and is saying 'Traitors! Whose side are you on'. At sea an RNLI lifeboat can be seen with people wrapped in blankets who they have saved from drowning on the back. An RNLI person shouts back 'life's'.
