For "English" to be a coherent ethnicity category you have to draw lines not just where Braverman mainly wants to (ie. excluding POC) but also with other Europeans - descended from a German, Pole, Ukrainian, Lithuanian who came in the 1940s? Nope. Descended from a 19thC Russian Jew - nope.

Deleting apps cos I wanna meet someone the old fashioned way (form a homoerotic bond with a beautiful boy at Oxford, wheedle my way into his family, watch his descent into alcoholism, get rejected by his sister due to her faith, eventually convert to Catholicism with great metaphorical significance)

What is genuinely fascinating about this is in general the answers are not true. The “Gails = Lib Dems” thing is not true! A thing called “matcha” is available wherever there’s a Greggs!

Second week of NCTJ fast-track finished, celebratory schnitzel sandwich eaten. It's a lot like going back to school, but with a laser-focus on newsfinding and structure. Starting to think about newsroom placements which I'm meant to start on Oct. 16. If you have any leads, do please get in touch!
Me with a schnitzel sandwich at a deli. Wanted to sort of channel Carly Rae Jepsen's Day and Night album cover - not sure if that's come across in the visuals, but since you're reading this I can just tell you.

good morning

We recommend avoiding general and often dehumanizing "the" labels such as the poor, the mentally ill, the French, the disabled, the college-educated. Instead, use wording such as people with mental illnesses. And use these descriptions only when clearly relevant.

Replying to @APStylebook

The use of "the French" in this tweet by @AP was inappropriate and has caused unintended offense. An updated tweet is upcoming.

It was a glorious, glittering Saturday a couple of weeks ago when a small group of us descended on Folkestone Beach to do a recce for a protest that will take place in June.

We hope that Mothers in Arms, a cross-party campaign for female safety, will involve hundreds of women and girls – mums, daughters, sisters, aunts, grandmothers – coming together to stare defiantly across the English Channel, which is crossed daily by hundreds of men in small boats from countries where women are treated appallingly
