The Sudan War: is there any way out?
Since April 2023 Sudan has been consumed by a vicious war that gets far too little attention in the West.

I can now reveal that crypto billionaire Ben Delo—pardoned by Trump after a conviction for anti-money-laundering violations—privately funded the failed libel action brought against me by neo-Nazi conspiracy theorists Nina Power and Daniel Miller to the tune of at least £300,000.

Short version:
People talk about an institution like Harvard withdrawing a speaking invitation as if it were shutting access to the marketplace of ideas. Except Harvard isn’t the marketplace. YouTube is the marketplace, and you’re welcome to set up your stall there and hawk your wares. Harvard is supposed to be Neiman Marcus or Harrods. You have to earn a place on their shelves because their customers trust them to curate quality. If they discover the shoes you’re selling leak in the winter and hate black people all year round, they’re perfectly entitled to kick you out of their collection.

Kemi did say she wants candidates with conviction. I just didn’t realise she meant for burglary, assault, inciting racial hatred, malicious communications, and racially-aggravated harassment.
We need candidates with the five Cs: they must be clever, have charisma, communication skills, conviction and, most importantly, be Conservative.

Denethor is the Arch-Doomer. He has cooked his brain from doomscrolling on the Palantir, he thinks it’s savvy to have no hope and dismisses anything good that happens because other bad stuff will happen later. And crucially, this means he also *misunderstands* what he sees (the Black Ships!)

I do firmly believe that this is one of the most important parts of democracy in These Isles and we should cherish it. A sitting Minister going down to third standing next to a person dressed as a gannet keeps our politicians from thinking too much of themselves.

The irony is that one of the clear reasons why Labour have behaved the way they have behaved in office is "so we don't end up getting tankrolled at local elections". I can't imagine that a "tear off the sticking plaster" Labour Party would have done worse this year than this one has.

Not sure this helps the "Andy Burnham has a safe seat lined up and could easily return to Westminster" narrative. Especially as even if Burnham did win that by-election, Labour would then have to fight to hold the Manchester mayoralty in a *huge* by-election. Losing that would be a nightmare start.
