One of my favorite parts of the PNW is the fall fungi! Look what I found yesterday at my local park. 🌱

If I had gotten hit by a car to get this photo it would have been worth it
A man in a black helmet and khaki motorcycle gear rides his motorcycle down a street in Manhattan. In the motorcycle’s sidecar, a dog that looks like a heeler mix stands at attention with his front paws up on the front of the sidecar, his eyes protected by a set of khaki motorcycle goggles. The dog is wearing a harness that sort of looks like a biker vest. He appears to be having the time of his life.

I-001 & I-638 threaten the safety of all Washington students. Marblemount resident Linden Jordan writes in Cascadia Daily News about the harmful impacts of both initiatives, especially for LGBTQ+ youth. Take a stand against hate. Vote NO on I-001 and I-638 when your ballot arrives. #NoHateWAState
A quote is written in dark purple text on a lavender background: “People like Brian Heywood use initiatives to cultivate violence. He attacks children and youths. This is why these initiatives must be thrown back in his face with a resounding defeat in November. I can’t fix what is happening in Louisiana, but I can stand my ground here at home. Vote no on I-001 & I-638!” Below the quote is the author’s info: Linden Jordan, published in Cascadia Daily News. This is written next to a small circular photo of Linden. He has gray hair and is wearing a plaid shirt. He is smiling at the camera sitting on a brown leather couch. A dark purple footer with white text says “Vote NO on I-001 & I-638.”

David Quammen's essay in The New York Times today closes with this paragraph. It's both a scientific falsehood, and an incredibly dangerous narrative. If you're willing to give me five minutes of your time, I'd like to explain why.
The Ebola virus doesn’t need to spill back. It abides in its reservoir host, and awaits its next opportunity. A virus can’t climb out of a bat or a monkey and fly off in search of human prey. It can only spill over. If humans left the reservoir host alone — not hunting it, not capturing it, not eating it, not exporting it live, not disturbing its forest habitat — the virus wouldn’t re-emerge in humans. It would remain where it is, harming no one. But of course that’s not what happens. And when viruses spill, they often spill into us, because the human population is such a big, busy target.
