Something new I’m noticing this fall: People in the local parenting Facebook group hiding behind anonymous AdjectiveFruit names asking very specific questions (What’s the pre-K schedule at X school? When does Y class at Z school eat lunch?) Feels like a new level of antisocial behavior.

On Sept. 11, 2001, Mom and I were on vacation at the Grand Canyon. When we woke up, the towers were gone. She insisted we leave the TV and visit the park anyway. I’ve seen lots of responses to this article along the lines of “well, NYC schools didn’t get out until the end of June,” which is true! The tricky part for finding childcare at the end of August is that college students are gone — meaning there are fewer camp counselors and lifeguards around.
