In May I wrote an opinion piece about the state of webcomics and webtoons. Today, news broke that major webcomics platform Tapas will be shutting down. As described in my piece, worrying signs had already been there for a few years. Tapas had stopped publishing new English-language original comics in 2023, and has been cutting staff and costs on the North American side even before that.
