@rickyftw.bsky.social my other half has been spending some time messing around with Labubus in his art and couldn't help himself after watching yesterday's episode. He's been making all kinds of weird stuff like this. I call them Labozos.

You are fantastic. You are a moment of profound realization. You are the resilience of a water bear. You are a gothic film with practical effects. You are a labyrinth formed of ancient hedges, populated by eldritch hedgehogs and talking capybaras in top hats.

Fascist regimes thrive on propaganda, fear, and the erosion of critical thought. By reclaiming the narrative through verified information and public discourse, societies can resist normalization of authoritarian control and preserve civic freedoms.

This is genocide. There is no die process. This treatment is intentionally dehumanizing. The people making the Hitler comparisons are right.

The distance between a legal resident who's not a citizen being deported without due process and a citizen being deported without due process is a hell of a lot shorter than many folks seem to believe, and when it does happen to a citizen, just remember it started here and who was quiet in response.

Politics hasn't been this simple in a long time: do you think it's good for one man to exercise unchecked, arbitrary power or not. Those are the two available ideologies right now

Peach themed works in progress.
A jellyfish with a peach body and green and brown tentacles.

The contrast between the tentacles and body are meant to evoke the contrast of ripeness and decay, the way we can be full of ourselves in our prime, but reaching and grasping when we are not our best.

This jelly is taking in water for propulsion, the collar tall and visible beneath the shroud of its body. A jellyfish with a peach body and green and brown tentacles.

The contrast between the tentacles and body are meant to evoke the contrast of ripeness and decay, the way we can be full of ourselves in our prime, but reaching and grasping when we are not our best.

This jelly is expending water for propulsion, the collar closely shrouded by its body.

It’s hard to reconcile the “they’ll go after ideologies they don’t like next” talk with the fact they’ve been openly targeting a whole suite of them associated with Black scholarship already. They’ve already threatened to defund any university teaching critical race theory. Why doesn’t that count?

My poodle puppy is 8 months old this week. She has taught herself to set traps. I walked into the kitchen last night and whispered, "Clever girl."
The doorway between my kitchen and porch is obstructed by a gallon of Dawn dish liquid (which she pushed at least 8 inches to tighten the gap in the doorway, smart little bitch), and her favorite stuffed duck.

Tonight, no Senate Democrats voted for the ban on trans girls and young women participating in sports, and it failed cloture. The prevailing reasoning was far less about trans equality and far more about preventing genital exams of girls and young women. Don't be surprised when the GOP tries again.

The Turkish Straits are crucial to Russia, both economically and militarily. To Putin and Russia, control over the Turkish Straits is vital. And to them, whoever controls the Black Sea controls the Straits, and whoever controls Crimea controls the Black Sea. That's why they invaded Ukraine.

It is impossible to reconcile Microsoft's dramatic 1GW+ pullback on data center buildouts with the idea that there is massive growth in generative AI. It suggests that Microsoft believes they have the capacity to meet demand - and that said demand isn't very large. www.wheresyoured.at/power-cut/
One might argue that Microsoft’s reduction in capacity buildout is just a sign that OpenAI is moving its compute elsewhere, and while that might be true, here’re some questions to ask:

Microsoft still sells access to OpenAI’s API through Azure. Does it not see the growth in that product to support data center expansion?
Microsoft still, one would assume, makes money off of OpenAI’s compute expenses, right? Or is that not the case due to the vast (75%) discount that OpenAI gets on using its services?
Microsoft making such a material pullback on data center expansion suggests that the growth in generative AI products, both those run on Microsoft’s servers and those sold as part of Microsoft’s products, do not have the revolutionary growth-trajectory that both CFO Amy Hood and CEO Satya Nadella have been claiming, and this is deeply concerning, while also calling into concern the viability of generative AI as a growth vehicle for any hyperscaler.

If I am correct, Microsoft is walking away from not just the expansion of its current data center operations, but from generative AI writ large. I actually believe it will continue selling this unprofitable, unsustainable software, because the capacity it has right now is more than sufficient to deal with the lack of demand.

It is time for investors and the general public to begin demanding tangible and direct numbers on the revenue and profits related to generative AI, as it is becoming increasingly obvious that the revenues are small and the profits are non-existent. A gigawatt of capacity is huge, and walking away from that much capacity is a direct signal that Microsoft’s long term plans do not include needing a great deal of compute.
