The Labour establishment have been vicious towards Zack since they realized the threat he poses to them And yet they are thinking that the Green Party should stand aside for them in Makerfield? Cooperation is a two-way street as are pluralism and respect

I personally would prefer it if Burnham could be swapped in quickly and easily, and it’d probably be better for the nation. But I see no reason why the Greens should now help people who just spent two weeks calling them hateful racist cranks trying to give heroin to children.

I hope this isn't true. There are times when it's more important to put country before party. This is one of them. Burnham's longstanding commitment to a fairer voting system could transform our democracy & counter the dire threat of a Reform UK government elected on a minority of the vote

One of my most shallow opinions is that a decent percentage of far right hate is driven by the fact that few people are attracted to them, physically or spiritually, and they want to be able to legislate around this. See: this thread

The fact that a neo-Nazi teenager who attempted to behead a Kurdish barber in Bristol last year has just been sentenced to almost 20 years in prison isn’t *national* news is enormously telling. It’s really not just a South West story, is it?

This graph shows two things, 1) obviously that the cameras reduced speeding, but 2) that the improvement kept getting better over time. Speeders tend to get one or two tickets and then learn and change their behaviour. This isn't a cash grab, it's an extremely useful intervention.

#Bigtech consistently lies about the environmental impact of #DaraCentres. Why is it so hard to create and enforce rules that the polluter pays for the damage they caused? Most likely because if tech paid a true cost for their damage they'd be bankrupt. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

"The works of the roots of the vines, of the trees, must be destroyed to keep up the price, and this is the saddest. bitterest thing of all. Carloads of oranges dumped on the ground. The people came for miles to take the fruit. but this could not be. How would thev buy oranges at twenty cents a dozen if they could drive out and pick them up? And men with hoses squirt kerosene on the oranges, and they are angry at the crime, angry at the people who have come to take the fruit. A million people hungry, needing the fruit- and kerosene sprayed over the golden mountains. And the smell of rot fills the country. Burn coffee for fuel in the ships. Burn corn to keep warm, it makes a hot fire. Dump potatoes in the rivers and place guards along the banks to keep the hungry people fron fishing them out. Slaughter the pigs and bury them, and let the putrescence drip down into the earth.
There is a crime here that goes bevond denunciation. There is a sorrow here that weeping cannot symbolize. There is a failure here that topples all our success. The ertile earth, the straight tree rows, the sturdv trunks, and the ripe fruit. And childrer dying of pellagra must die because a profit cannot be taken from an orange. And coroners must fill in the certificate- died of malnutrition- because the food must rot must be forced to rot. The people come with nets to fish for potatoes in the river, and he guards hold them back; they come in rattling cars to get the dumped oranges, bu the kerosene is sprayed. And they stand still and watch the potatoes float bv, listen to the screaming pigs being killed in a ditch and covered with quick-lime, watch the mountains of oranges slop down to a putrefying ooze; and in the eyes of the people here is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage."
