Another warm welcome from Europe. Poland’s foreign minister Radosław Sikorski has added his support for Britain’s return to the EU, following positive statements from France and Spain. As Britain considers its future, our European neighbours are making clear that a closer relationship is possible.

Britain needs a stronger voice in an uncertain world. Rory Stewart argues that Trump and China make this a good moment to pursue closer ties with the EU. Working more closely with our European neighbours would give us greater influence over the decisions that shape our future.

Dividends paid to UK citizens taxed at rates of 8.75% to 39.35%, lower rate than wages. Dividends mostly go to the top 1%. £6bn a year raised if dividends taxed at the same rate as wages. More if NIC levied. Unlike the US, France, Germany, no UK tax levied on dividends paid to foreign investors.

"Our future lies in a stronger, deeper partnership with the European Union." In Ed Miliband's speech at Labour Conference, he made the point that Europe is more than just our geography, it is how we pursue our values and build our alliances, and that the UK is stronger with others.

Andy Burnham says he will set out options for Britain’s long-term relationship with Europe, and seek consensus on the way forward. This is positive progress. The UK–EU summit is an opportunity to give Britain a clearer direction and build a stronger relationship with our European partners.

This, my friends, is one of your legislators. We didn't elect him, but he sits in the House of Lords as a reward for bringing us Brexit, injecting his bigotry, perversity and ignorance into our lives. Daniel Hannan in the Daily Mail today, once again grossly misrepresenting history.
Meanwhile, Caribbean countries are demanding ‘reparations’, not from the African states that enslaved their ancestors, but from the nation that poured its blood and treasure into a relentless campaign for abolition.

Incredibly, African countries – which became British colonies, in no small measure, because we were trying to extirpate slavery – also straight-facedly demand compensation.
