The son of the man shot and killed by ICE: I am Ronaldo Salgado, the oldest son of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. He should've been picking up the last of his guys before heading to finish up construction. Unbeknownst to all of us, my dad had been shot inside his van by ICE agents in unmarked cars.

one of the most common reactions I see to Graeber's books is 'I liked most of it, but when I got to [thing the reader knows about] it was obvious crap.' the secret here is that it's *all* crap.

I am a member of several political organizations. Some of the people I’m aligned with in one are opponents in another. The orgs that actually accomplish their goals are the ones that stay focused on their mission instead of subsuming into omnicause infighting

If you work for Sunrise, and feel you are morally unable to prioritize climate change over Gaza, fine, understandable. You should quit and get a different job doing that then.

The American west is currently seeing all time record temperatures for March, temperatures it doesn't typically see until the middle of summer. The Sunrise Movement has not posted about climate change in weeks. Nearly every post mentions AIPAC.

I'll add that the Track AIPAC stuff about Biss has permeated enough that I have progressive friends outside the district asking me about it If it isn't obvious already, AIPAC and J Street are decidedly different (and hate each other, too!) and conflating them is dishonest and potentially dangerous

Trump nominated a legit white nationalist to a top post at the State Department. I asked him some basic questions about his belief in the “erasure of white culture”. Watch this embarrassing, fumbling answer. Like he has never before been asked to explain his views.

They’re shooting rapid responders. Pepper spraying them. Beating them. Tear gassing them. Following them home. Threatening their families. And all of that makes it harder to protect their neighbors. All Will had to do was Stop Fucking Blabbing. But he couldn’t. He had to be the main character.

CMS can aggregate a network of providers. There is so much money at stake, it’s hard for providers to say no. They can also negotiate a cash price, that is a percent of Medicare. Most ACA plans are around 140%. They can do that or better because it’s paid quickly.

The TPAs get paid on a per claim basis. They dont make more for denying claims. They don’t make more for doing anything. They get paid for every transaction they process. Their incentive is to be cost effective and treat patients fairly.

CMS works with Third Party Adminstrators (TPA), to process claims according to the ACA standards. They can work with the TPAs to create a variety of plans. The premiums would be the same as after the Premium Tax Credits and paid to the IRS

1. Instead of of pretending insurance companies are taking on insurance risk, the federal government takes on the role of insurer and guarantor of patient OOP. All providers get paid. People who can’t afford their deductible or coinsurance are covered by the Feds
