ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 04/07/2026It's always a good time to play Star Control 2 (aka Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters). Feel free to mod out the time limit if you feel it's too restrictive, just enjoy some good video game sci-fi where you scoot around and meet some weird lil' guys 042
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 22/06/2026I think that one of the franchises where its ideal fights against is own reality is Gundam, and I'm not here to talk about the War Bad/Cool Robot dichotmy More that people, even Tomino, clearly want it to be morally ambiguous/shades of gray but most of the antagonists are just Turbo Space Hitler 110
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 13/05/2026One of these days I want there to be an RTS where one of the faction rosters consists entirely of the fever dreams of Popular Mechanics 000
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 12/05/2026I was reading Bram Stoker's Dracula recently (there are very good reasons to start in May) and I thought about how to answer the question "It's a classic, but what kind of Victorian Baggage does it have?" The answer I came up with is "If you can watch an average anime, you can handle Dracula." 100
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 02/05/2026I've been watching the new Fist of the North Star adaptation, but even though the phrase didn't really exist yet when I first read the manga, I find it morbidly amusing that God's Land is a literal Cult of the Operator. 000
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 18/04/2026I can't say much for sure about whether Star Trek: Academy should have continued. But I think that when a creator's first impulse to make their mark on an established setting is "burn it all down" they're going to start at a deficit that they have to make up for to justify that choice 000
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 19/02/2026I know that history isn't always literary But there's something amusing that the Axis nations, that viciously enforced conformist "purity" of thought, culture, race, and national character were also being defeated by Allied generals named things like Simon Bolivar Buckner *Jr.* 000
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 14/01/2026I've been seeing some people go "If it wasn't for the foreign box office, Avatar: Fire and Ash would be a flop" Which is a weird way of saying "If Avatar wasn't commercially successful, it would be a flop." I mean, yes, that's how film releases work? 000
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 29/12/2025Thinking more about the "Avatar = cultural impact" thing, I've started to notice that people define "cultural impact" in the most vapid and superficial terms 100
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 28/12/2025I don't know much about Avatar (the blue aliens movies, not the kung fu cartoon) beyond the first movie But I think people are kinda forgetting how much "Author hamfistedly hammers that one message with near-naked allegory" is one of the load-bearing cornerstones of science fiction as a genre 110
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 28/10/2025I watched The Black Cat (1934) recently, and it's nice to see that impressively on-the-nose symbolism was there in the early years of sound film The antagonist building his ultra-modern mansion on top of a desolate WWI battlefield is approaching something Kojima-esque. (1/2) 110
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 25/10/2025Reddit feels like proof of how creatures evolve to fill niches to replace those once held by extinct species. Reddit is basically the new Usenet- groups for basically any subject you may or may not think of where your personal experience is heavily defined by the group culture and moderation. 000
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 20/10/2025Hol up You're telling me there was a brazen jewelry heist at the Louvre and there may be only one week to hunt them down? Next thing you'll tell me is that reality is now starring Steve McQueen 000
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 16/10/2025I never read Slate that much, but one thing I sorely miss is Joshua Keating's "If It Happened There" series- It took some real art and talent with satire to do that and I think that, however much respect it got, it wasn't enough. 000

ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 04/10/2025I was playing Final Fantasy Tactics, and one thing that struck me is that the Lucavi are a group working together towards a common goal that provides immediate, clear, and practical benefits to their entire group Which is pretty rare for Final Fantasy villains I have to say 110
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 23/08/2025This is the umpteenth time I have cooked oven roasted sausage, peppers, and onions served over pasta. I have become exceedingly efficient at it. 000
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 20/01/2025I had a conversation today that reminded me of how Neo-Classical architecture is one of many things based on a misunderstanding of Roman Civilization and how it pisses me off Retvrn to the Home Depot and get some goddamn paint 000
ArchiveDrone @archiveslabe.bsky.social · 16/01/2025I don't know if there's a way to properly summarize the film career of David Lynch, but I also think he would have wanted it that way 000
