This is written to fly under the radar, from today’s Sunday Independent (Ireland). The press council upheld a complaint about an offensive and transphobic opinion column by Brenda Power. Sindo was required to publish the decision. @mams4transrights.bsky.social @jesalady.bsky.social
A half page article from the Sunday independent with the headline OMB2590 A woman and the Sunday independent.
The article outlines the complaint, the appeal and the decision.
The complaint relates to an opinion column deploring the fact that an unnamed td provided a character reference for a man convicted of sexual violence against children. A sentence in the column argued that this case threw light on the possibility that a man would “identify as a woman” in order to commit sexual violence.
The press council concluded that “a reference to a protected group [trans people] in this context should have been extremely carefully scrutinised”. It found that the Sunday independent was in violation of principle 8 of the press council code of practice.

Industrial action by over 100,000 public sector workers in Ireland doesn’t even make the front page of the public broadcaster, RTÉ. And what it does say includes a lot of misinformation from the Irish government who are the ones refusing to enter negotiations without preconditions. #SIPTU #Speirgorm

Since PTSD is being invoked to excuse any and all abuse and misconduct, let us acknowledge where it is most common. .... From my book Recollections of My Nonexistence.
The former Marine David J. Morris, author of a book on post-
traumatic stress disorder, notes that the disorder is far more com-
mon and far more rarely addressed among rape survivors than
combat veterans. He wrote me, “The science on the subject is pretty
clear: according to the New England Journal of Medicine, rape is about
four times more likely to result in diagnosable PTSD than combat.
Think about that for a moment— being raped is four times more psy-
chologically disturbing than going off to a war and being shot at and
blown up. And because there are currently no enduring cultural nar-
ratives that allow women to look upon their survival as somehow he-
roic or honorable, the potential for enduring damage is even greater.”

The Irish Times - Letters to the Editor.
Fri Sep 18 2026-06:00 . 1 MIN READ

Sir, - For Ed Abrahamson to be right that the West Bank is not occupied territory but rather *disputed" territory "Disputed lands of West Bank have a long history", Letters, September 16th), it would require that the United Nations Security Council, the United Nations General Assembly, the European Union, the African Union, the League of Arab States, the International Court of Justice, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Criminal Court, successive UN Commissions of Inquiry and every country in the world, bar one, are wrong
Moreover. the International Court of Justice held in Julv 2024 that Israel's presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is unlawful and must end as soon as possible. The authoritative judicial finding by the world's highest court was given overwhelming political endorsement by the United Nations General Assembly two months later. - Yours etc,

I cannot describe the brokenness I felt reading this from the Haaretz piece. The hostages were betrayed by everyone; Israeli leaders, the diaspora leaders & their orgs, the entire pro-Israel industrial complex, and by far and away the millions of people who cried "hostages" to support a genocide.
"He told me that in the first stage, they had no problem releasing all civilians without anything in return," Mashharawi recounts. "I swear, those were his exact words: all civilians, without anything in return. They had only one condition: They wanted us to bring in an agreed-upon mediator as quickly as possible, so that negotiations could immediately begin over everything else – the release of soldiers and officers in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, and then the issue of the blockade on Gaza."
