I've gotten a lot of requests from faculty about how to talk to their students about the Cornell 7. I'll post a few resources I've built over the years that I've heard are the most helpful:

Happy Michaelmas! In some parts of Ireland on this day, rent could be paid in geese. If you’re due to pay rent this month, please consider setting a very irritated goose on your landlord in lieu of payment, in the name of upholding important Irish traditions.
A drawing of mine of a goose looking concerned, with a tag around its neck that reads "This month's rent, with thanks".

So much of what we think of as 'good' style in persuasive or informative writing asks us to strip out 'hedging' phrases that limit or qualify claims. We want clear, bold theses - they're easier to understand, quicker to read, more exciting, & we take lack of qualifiers as a sign of authority.

Britain’s original plan for New Zealand had the islands split into three provinces, with nonsensical borders typical of any British colonial project. The provinces were named after Irish ones (the guy who came up with them was an Anglo-Irish colonial officer). These didn’t last for long.
A map of New Zealand, showing its provincial divisions in 1841. Most of the North Island forms ‘New Ulster’, but the southern tip of the island forms ‘New Munster along with what today is now known as the Southern Island. The small island below the Southern Island, Rakiura/Stewart Island, makes the third province ‘New Leinster’

Many people struggling this week with the perennial problem of a famous artist who was also a known groomer, warned about among young women. The fact that our lives are bound up with those of abusers is hard to deal with. We have been here before, we are never not here. Some writing has helped me:

On March 26, 2026, during a debate on violence against women in Germany’s Bundestag, left-wing MP Kathrin Gebel was repeatedly interrupted by AfD MP Martin Reichardt. She responded: “Mr. Reichardt, the clitoris has 3,000 nerve endings, and you’re still more sensitive. That’s quite an achievement.”

As someone who researches and writes in the trauma space (decolonial & post-conflict) this book is unavoidable and yet there are so many better texts written by feminist researchers without dubious professional records that deserve attention... I am so here for this takedown 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

My twins are doing the Junior Cert so I'm reading the exams every day. Today was science. And look at this.... I'm assuming that points will be given for the following answers: Consent, autonomy, freedom, choice, violence, coercion, equality, force, oppression....
screenshot of the junior cert science paper question on human reproduction. This question is highlighted: Ethical issues related to human reproduction sometimes arise. Discuss an ethical issue associated with human reproduction.
There is also a picture of a mid-section of a human body, with a foetus inside it.

When my son was aged about 2-5yrs he had long hair & liked pink. I remember looking at children's books in a progressive bookshop in London & noted that too many of the "boy books" were things like "boys can like pink too" "stories for boys who are different because their hair has grown long"...

Very good article, on the nexus created by media coverage of legal cases in the UK. Nicely maps some of the ways that a broadly trans-inclusive society got reshaped into one of the most trans exclusionary places in Europe.
