"How I used AI so I didn't have to think" is a weird flex. www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/r...
Every year, thousands of people in the Twin Cities hunt for a medallion that’s been hidden in the snow somewhere in a public park.

And every night, the Pioneer Press, a local newspaper, publishes a cryptic clue, leading hunters closer and closer to the medallion’s exact location. Staying up late to digest each day’s new clue is a tradition in my household, and we dream of what we’d do with the thousands of dollars in winnings.

Usually that brainstorming carries into the next day. My husband and I text each other about whatever harebrained rabbit hole we’ve fallen into as we try to find the medallion. But this year, I used AI — specifically, an AI-powered web browser — to help me solve the mystery. AI browsers put an AI chatbot right in your browser window; you don’t need to switch to another tab. When you start chatting, AI scans the browser window for context.

It sounds simple, yet it has fundamentally changed how I interact with AI.

For this task, instead of peppering my husband with theories, I queried a web browser with built-in AI. I asked it to make lists of parks with certain features, to find records related to the history of the county, and to poke holes in my wildest theories. And, of course, I asked it to give me its own theories on where the medallion might be hidden.

In the process, I found that AI was often better at treasure hunting, and I also found that having the chatbot right there helped me engage with the internet in a deeper way. The AI browsers often pulled from sources that I wouldn’t have thought to search, and they tailored their answers to my questions in a way that a source on Google might not. There was also no need to get distracted in other tabs and wander into distant corners of the internet.

Adulthood is just cycling between "If I don't say yes to every opportunity, no new opportunities will ever be offered to me" and "Oh no, I have said yes to too many things" over and over until you die.

People cross the street where it makes sense
A new study out of Milwaukee highlights a major blind spot in how we approach safety for people on foot. People don’t only cross at intersections; midblock crossings are more common…

Big "oil" could have stayed in the energy business forever by using their scandalous profits to lavishly fund the kind of renewable energy research the Chinese politburo invested in. They could have sold essential technology all over the world. Instead, they bought bigger boats. Idiots.

Sick and tired of grift posters who point out government happenings and tell us "this should terrify us all". No, fuck you, it should piss us off. Being scared of these electeds shouldn't be the default reaction. In a proper democracy, they should be terrified of going against the people.

same Overton Window-shattering tactic he’s always used: Even if worst doesn’t happen tonight - rhetorically he’s opened up possibility of the unimaginable, making lesser (but still horrible) actions seem moderate by comparison… all increasing likelihood that one day the worst really will happen

probably completely obvious but the reason Project Hail Mary is doing so well (apart from being very well made) is that it is all about problem-solving, cooperation, self-sacrifice, and forming deep relationships with those from far away. All values that people feel a desperate need for right now.

We need to develop and build affordable housing in our city, just not… in anyone’s backyard, laneway, front yard, along a corridor, never on an avenue, heritage supersede housing and we all understand that under utilized parking lots are the heart of the neighbourhood.

Something I really encourage people to do is conduct a walk audit in their community and really look at infrastructure through the lens of someone disabled, especially if they're using a wheelchair or other mobility aid. Things are often far less accessible than nondisabled people think.

Defending street parking for commerce ignores that a 2-meter tall SUV completely hides the business behind it. Car bloat creates physical barriers. Human-scale transit keeps sightlines clear and storefronts inviting.

Narratively having Ever Given getting stuck in 2021 to set up Hormuz in 2026 is great foreshadowing. You want your audience to understand the basics of international shipping in a lower stakes context so you drop the real plot without a lot of saggy exposition about the minutiae of cargo logistics.
