Our school doesn't just have a #bikebus, there's also a run club that meets, trains and runs to school together (another weekday). The parent organizer asked for a volunteer to drive all the kids backpacks to school. My husband said why drive when you could cargo bike?! 25 bags delivered this week.

Right to repair is an important subject to me. I believe that simple and serviceable designs are a valuable ebike ownership trait. Motors like the BBSHD require few specialized tools and most you probably already have in your tool box. Transportation independence starts on the work bench.

Yeah and this is why we need to be careful when advocating for the car-free life because for many what we're asking them to do is decrease their quality of life. Car-free in many ways their lives can improve but that's harder to understand. I aim for just convincing folks to not drive when possible

ecargo bikes are great for enabling more trips, unmentioned in this article is political will to use concrete and enforcement (license suspension, car seizure) to stop drivers killing cyclists. Car dependence is policy, car dominance is the option for drivers to use violence instead of slowing down

Accounts (particularly huge ones like media orgs) should be able to set a "default feed" where, when you visit their profile, instead of seeing the reverse chron, gives you a feed they've created for their audience. This is a killer differentiator and @bsky.app needs to have built it a year ago.

4 ft pole on bike?

I passed a bicyclist going the opposite direction on a fairly narrow road and they had an orange stick or pole attached to their bike which looked about 4 ft long sticking out into traffic. I assume this is so they force passing cars to give distance but I assume there's no way that's legal right? If someone passes too close and scratches their car or whatever the bike rider would be partially liable or get cited for something?

Hey folks. I hope you're doing well. With my sentencing on the horizon it now becomes time to share this letter with you, my friends and fellow dreamers. Thank you immensely for your support through all of this. Whether you were aware of this painful process or not, your joy has kept me going.

Friends,

I hurt someone. Every day since first learned I may have injured another human being, three days after my arrest, on the day I was released from jail, I have held this knowledge and reflected on it. I should not have done this and I will forever regret this pain I caused.

I was raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in a loving Quaker family, as a committed member of our local Quaker Meeting (our house of Worship), and have attended Quaker schools from early childhood through high school. Growing up immersed in these traditions and practical education, my very bones are built from the successes of collective action and community engagement. Quakerism has a long history of resisting injustice and pushing for meaningful change in alignment with our beliefs. We Quakers are a varied bunch, with each individual holding a unique understanding of our teachings and relationship with the divine. However, one of our central tenets which is held by perhaps every Quaker, is the power of nonviolence. Quakers, myself included, aim
to resolve disagreements peacefully, remaining conscious of the fact that there is something holy in every person. Peace cannot be a temporary goal. To create lasting, positive social change, the means utilized cannot undermine the ends. Violence begets violence begets violence, in a cycle that is very difficult to break. In order to build ourselves a peaceful society, our methods must reflect the
values of the world that we're trying to make.

I understand Quaker pacifism and abstention from violence to be not only a moral judgement, but also a deeply intentional practical and strategic choice. Nonviolence has a storied history, playing a
major role in more than a few successful mass social movements. And nonviolence works. It has worked well. I would like to make it extremely clear, I know that the actions I took on June 14th are not right or effective ways to express disagreement or protest.

knowledge of their circumstances is limited, but I have been told that their wound has healed. I'm so glad. I know so little about them, but I'm sure they are loved. They deserve as much safety and security as everyone else.

On June 14, I made a mistake. I was violent. I took an action that carelessly endangered the physical safety of another human being. I hurt someone. In the chaos of teargas and smoke, my response was forceful and misguided. While I do not seek to justify my actions, I would like to briefly explain the context around my wrong choice.

I was directly in front of the door of the Portland ICE facility for a reason. The agents were using it as a barrier from which to stage waves of assaults on protestors, using tear gas canisters and pepperballs. I wanted to protect those behind me, so I moved forward. Someone had thrown a lime scooter in front of the door, wedging it in such away as to prevent the door from fully opening. Several times, the door quickly flew open to unstick the scooter. I didn't want myself or others to be
shot more, nor did I feel it was right or moral for the armed agents to be shooting people in general, so I tried to help wedge the door shut. To ward the armored people back, with adrenaline narrowing my focus and pepperballs and tear gas burning my eyes and skin, I threw a rock at the guards
through one of the partially opened doors of the facility. I knew there were heavily armored agents on the other side of the door, but at that moment I did not think that my act would or could injure any of
them. At that point in time, I was under the impression that these agents were invulnerable. That impression was wrong. Afterwards, when I was moving away from the facility, I was shot in the back
of the leg and limped the rest of the day.

With all that in mind, I know that I betrayed my Quaker values by violently disregarding the safety of another human being. My actions were not justified, nor were they effective, and I did something that cannot be forgotten or undone. In all my lifelong, vocal affirmation of the power of nonviolence, I tried to solve a problem in a way that contradicted that belief. In this, I
have been a hypocrite. I will do better.

On July 28, 2025, the Court granted me the privilege of awaiting trial outside prison. I am immensely grateful to have had this opportunity. I believe I have used this time well, reaffirming my commitment to effective nonviolent change-making in myriad ways. I have been taking graduate-level courses at Portland State University (PSU) for nine months and have been accepted into PSU's Master of Urban and Regional Planning program. I have visited the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) and Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) offices and dream of helping strengthen our city with carefully-planned climate-resilient infrastructure, with deep local involvement. I helped PSU's team get 2nd place at the Bill Kloos Traffic Bowl, winning $400 for our transport club (ITE-STEP). I have been welcomed into an amazing community of planners and space-makers at PSU and I'm
incredibly excited to continue this immersive work that has become the beating heart of my life.

I have also become deeply enmeshed with the minutiae of City Council, with the hope to someday have the knowledge and experience to be able to support our elected officials in their work.

work regularly at the McMenamins Kennedy School as a bartender and server. I have become an active member of a wide variety of different community groups, some mentioned before, that are
doing the work of building a better world every single day. I adopted two beautiful cats and a year-old puppy. I voted. I moved. I have supported my dad as he resigned from his job teaching at a Quaker
school in Pennsylvania, so that he and my mom could move to Portland to support me in the next stages of my life, and I can further support them in theirs. I have laughed and I have cried. I have
had the worst panic attacks of my life and am unable to stop myself from shivering as I write this. Daily I continue to feel the love of the innumerable people who believe in me. I feel the pain of knowing that I hurt someone. All of this happens so deeply intermingled.

These experiences begin to describe who I am and the work I do. These are the ways to make change. Not through losing oneself in a traumatizing moment and resorting to violence, but through
deliberate and patient structural change-making alongside others. Through kindness and love and community and thoughtful intention. This is the work I have done throughout my life, but have kicked
into high gear recently. This is the work I will do the rest of my life, and it is undeniably so much more effective than violence. We will change the world together, thoughtfully and peacefully.

My actions on June 14 weigh on me every day. This was an isolated mistake. I have never done anything like this before and I never will do such a thing again. I have the support of family, friends, the Quaker community, coworkers, classmates, teachers, neighbors, and many community
organizations. I owe these folks everything. This love I feel has and will continue to keep me accountable.

One of the reasons it took me so long to get into biking was that I couldn’t figure out how to get places without showing up looking a mess. I’m never worried about that with my ebike! It’s one of the reasons I wish there were more ebike options designed for women / shorter folks.
