More pressing business to attend to while a nurse speaks out against Flock and ways the city can reuse the money. Great representation there, @cityofcleveland.bsky.social

The June 1st Cleveland City Council meeting is off to a great start! 40 minutes late so far and still no sign of starting. 🧵

With such short notice and wind chills into the negatives, I'm incredibly proud of the showing from the Heights Bicycle Coalition chapter of @bikecleveland.bsky.social for the Alex Pretti Memorial Ride. This is what community looks like!
Photo of over twenty bikers posing for the picture next to their bicycles.Pre-ride photo of the bikers lined up in a row next to their bikes facing the event organizer, who is pointing behind himself while describing the route to the participants. Next to the organizer is a participant also facing the bikers, wearing a cardboard sign on their back with the words "Justice 4 Alex" written in black marker.A photo of multiple sets of bicycle and cold weather gear, including helmets, gloves, goggles and balaclava masks, on a slim bar stand in a line leading away from the camera. The closest helmet is in focus with further gear more blurred. In the background next to the table are two large light wood barrels with steel rings, used by the brewery where the picture was taken.

Don't forget, the @bikecleveland.bsky.social Heights Bicycle Coalition ride meets this Saturday, Jan 31st at 1:00pm in front of Van Aken District Market Hall with a rollout at 1:30pm. 3.2 miles, relaxed pace. Hope you'll join us!
A digital poster with a two-tone blue background, the phrase "For Alex" repeated in thin outlined letters behind a stylized black-and-white image of Alex Pretti's head wearing a bicycle helmet.

Around the head are the following details about the event:

"We ride in unity
Saturday 1-31-2026, 1:00 meet, 1:30 roll
Van Aken District
Ride Together
Stand Together"

"But what if I need to go shopping for home goods?" Two bed pillows, two large throw blankets, throw pillows and miscellaneous smaller items.

Lest you think we don't see a nice variety of bikes...

I keep spotting more and more bakfiets and we don't even have bike lanes yet! Imagine....

1. 2. 3. 4. 5 bikes parked at the farmers market, ah ah ah! (There's at least another half dozen parked nearby as well).

Saw a combination little free library and little free pantry today! Feed your mind and your soul.

I mean just take a look at this! In 2025 America it requires *courage* to make a graphic like this and publicly promote it.

"I never see anyone biking, why should we put in bike lanes?" I dunno, maybe because it's not very safe unless the road is closed for a parade?

Went out and explored an area on the east side of @cityofcleveland.bsky.social (Larchmere) and was very pleasantly surprised to see some new-ish infrastructure related to their Vision Zero plan!
Photo of a street with "day light" islands at the crosswalk, which shrinks the distance pedestrians have to cross traffic lanes and stops vehicles from parking close to the intersection which increases visibility of pedestrians to drivers and vice versa.

I wish MAGA would actually see something like this and turn against the guy. So much to unpack in a single short paragraph.
Paragraph of text from a Reuters news article quoting remarks that Trump said this weekend about the market not doing well, which says: "I don't want anything to go down. But sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something," he said as he returned from a weekend of golf in Florida.

Bulk recycling, farmer's market and grocery run. In the cold. And rain. And then freezing rain. And then snow. I hate Cleveland's weather but I still enjoyed the ride!

I finally get to contribute to this post! First ride on my new bike today. 🚲 After an unloaded orientation spin around the parking lot I took a brief trip to the recycling center. 🧵 A few observations:

Wow, this is an extremely tone deaf move. Be more like Costco, Target. Hold your ground.

Ope, got to this slide. Would be nice to see them deprioritize cars a bit more but at least this is a win.

Come on, Cleveland, we can do better than this. Shaker Square has two rapid lines running literally through it and multiple buses in/around it. There's no reason why public transit should be second to last here.
Screenshot of a slide from an open house presentation for a community roadmap of Shaker Square in Cleveland, Ohio. On the righthand side there are multiple survey results. Two results are circled for emphasis. The first is that 66% of visitors to the square drive alone to work. The second asked "how do you travel to the square", with walking at 244 people, driving with 229 people, bike with 61 people, public transit at 41 people, and "other" at 6 people.

Oh hey, it's an epaper display like the one I saw someone post a while back! Hopefully this proves successful and GCRTA deploys this across more of the overall transit network. neo-trans.blog/2025/01/12/g...

In some states you pay extra for annual registration to help offset that. For instance, Ohio is $200 for BEV.

It can always get worse! 🙃 Thankfully the area I'm looking at moving to is much better including having a transit score (but still not close to 100 for any metric).
