The thread being screenshotted actually says “don’t vote for Dems and tell others not to.” Seriously. “Here is a map of how things have gotten worse for trans people, exclusively in red states, while democrats have held firm. This proves you should stop voting for democrats.” This is…deranged.

This is one of the most maddening thigns about this court: Not just the substantive rulings, but how they think about “irreperable harm.” If the Most Special Boy has to wait a month to do a thing he REALLY wants to, that’s irreperable harm. Actual large-scale human suffering? Meh.

I’ve never been in denial about it but I do think today was the first day I truly realized how much antisemitism is spreading and being normalized in online far-left circles. It’s scary and frightening and is only going to get worse if the left insists it’s not a problem.

ppl on Twitter are talking about deer skull fursonas again and calling them the wrong thing again
Tbh I think Native American beliefs being used in cryptid stuff are the most clear cut examples of cultural appropriation out there.

Usually claims of appropriation are just “a white person is doing this thing that wasn’t invented by white people” and it’s like okay what’s the problem here

But with Native American stuff there’s a long history of white people just straight-up overwriting indigenous beliefs and having the altered version be vastly more recognized and well known than the genuine article

And that’s something I can genuinely see why people would be upset about

If someone is releasing dozens of rabid cougars into the wild, you should obviously hold them accountable, but saying “Cougars don’t kill people, people kill people” isn’t really smart, either. You have, separately, a liability problem and a cougar problem.

One of the most puzzling and upsetting bits of backsliding is the r-slur, especially because it seems like people all across the political spectrum have had this barely controlled desire to hurl it. It’s not hard not to use! I simply don’t!

“Raising immigration” is how immigration went from being a good issue for Trump to one he’s unpopular on. This is like saying you should never attack an enemy’s army since that’s where they’re strong. Often that’s WHY you have to attack it.

that's it. no tyrants. tyranny is a threat to the common good, in all manner of permutations. democracy is the principle that power changes hands regularly, and that if we have a terrible man in power we can mitigate and contain the damage.

Democracy isn't good because it makes good decisions. It never has been. Democracy is good because you can unmake bad decisions. Of you listen to revolutions podcast, pretty much every revolution occurs after a nations leadership fucks up really bad and won't change courses.

Trump has destroyed US credibility to the point that no one can make a deal with America even if they think the terms sound good, because they can’t trust the US to honor it. The U.S.-Canada trade arrangement Trump now claims is unacceptable was the one he negotiated and signed in his first term.

thinking about speed racer again
Speed Racer (2008) is such a fascinating movie because the CGI and color grading look so absolutely unimaginably horrible dogshit and then it gets to one of the race scenes and suddenly everything clicks and you’re locked in, the insane hypersaturated blur of colors and motion feel perfectly natural, it becomes a movie that literally could not have ever been made any other way without destroying it, a hypnotic and exhilarating experience that keeps you utterly transfixed until it’s over, and you mentally apologize to the wachowskis for ever doubting their genius

And then everything looks like garbage again
